Nibe Air Source Heat Pump or Combi Oil Boiler

the other thing to take into account is the cost per kwh. If you assume that the heatpump has a COP of 3 then a 1 kwh of heat will cost you say 15p/3 =5p. We are paying around 11.5p/kw/3 = 4p/kwh which is pretty good. Not quite as cheap as mains gas but probably as good if not better than oil or lpg
I dont know what 1kwh of heat will cost with either oil or lpg so you'd need to take that into consideration as well. If you can save a couple of hundred a year on your energy cost as well, the heatpump starts to look quite good.
I reckon our RHI will pay out about £5.2k over seven years. The HP cost around £7.5k when it was installed and an oil boiler plus tank and installation would have been around £3.5k. I reckon we save about £300 a year on our heating cost. so we benefit by around £1k from the RHI plus about £2k in energy cost over the seven years, a notional profit of around £3k which I consider pretty good.
You have to look at these as a long term investment. Our unit has been running now for nine years, so we've benefited from cheaper energy for all that time plus we've had five years worth of RHI ((£3600)with two more years (£1600) to come.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
