Guidance for Irish Passport Application

Hi Guys im not exactly sure where to post this so hopefully this is the correct forum and I can get some advice on what I can do as im really confused as to how to move forward.

My current UK passport ran out and I need to renew it, however given the current political climate I feel like it would be in my best interests to apply for my Irish Passport instead, my current circumstances are as follows:

- My nan (alive was born and raised in Ireland, she now lives in England)
- My mum (alive was born and raised in England)
- I am currently in the process of legally changing my second name to my stepfathers, nothing this because im not sure what I would need to do in regards to this change and getting an Irish Passport

Basically I would really like it if someone could simplify what I need to do in order to get this sorted, what documentation I need, what forms I need to fill out/send off and who Ive got to talk to.
I understand that this might seem like a strange request however I was hoping that someone else has gone through this and is able to to help a brother out.

Thanks for the response but im still left with the same questions, I understand that you probably think im being lazy but this article doesnt really clear anything up that I need clarified.

It also slightly contradicts what is stated on the Irish DFA website, thanks for linking the same article that comes up in the first ten instances of google though.

For you British passport you will need a change of name deed and proof that you use that name for all purposes eg driving licence etc in new name. I presume (you will have to check with the Irish authorities for that) for your Irish passport you will need your birth certificate, your mothers and you Irish grandmother,s birth certificates to prove you are entityto an Irish passport. You will also need similar proof that you are changing your name. Both passports will have to be in the same name

I'm entitled to apply for Irish citizenship through a grandparent - Foreign Birth Registration, then that allows you to apply for a passport.

It is a paper trail exercise, they need a full chain of documentation.

Birth certificates and marriage certificates for your relevant grandparent, likewise your parents and your birth certificate, plus photocopies with a hefty application fee.

I decided against it - too old to benefit - and it seems a spouse, any children and grandchildren are not entitled to Irish citizenship.

In your case the name change make complicate matters, I would contact the Irish Embassy in London for guidance.
