Why do microsoft send out so many updates?

Everytime I have to reinstall my printer.

They are such big updates that they reinstall the operating system every time with previous versions they were much smaller files.

I am sure all people could live without these silly unnecessary updates.

"Full OS" updates only happen twice a year and are quite large. All my machines are kept fully up to date and I never have to re-install anything. The more regular updates are mainly for bug and security fixes so are generally necessary.

Microsoft send out lots of updates because they have to fix lots of bugs.
They don't do it just for the fun of it!

That said, you shouldn't have to reinstall your printer each time.
Are you using the printer manufacturer's drivers or Microsofts?

Not sure where I read it, but they are now going to start doing what they did for W7, where you can pick what ones to install
They will label them important and optional, your choice

Because software is complicated and has bugs and security vulnerabilities that need sorting.
Everytime I have to reinstall my printer.
Then you should blame the printer manufacturer. I've never had to reinstall a printer because of updates.
I am sure all people could live without these silly unnecessary updates.
Plenty do, you get to read all about it in the news when there's something like the Wannacry virus all those thousands of unpatched NHS computers got infected with. Everyone who had updated their computers didn't suffer.

Like anti-vaxxers whose unvaccinated kids shouldn't be allowed to mix with others in places like schools, people who don't update their software should be banned from the internet.

The only device failure issue I've had with W10 updates was the latest which took me to 1809. For some reason that removed bluetooth entirely from my laptop - it didn't show at all in device manager. I found a fix which against all odds actually worked - it involved installing Intel wireless Proset despite my bluetooth adapter being Broadcom and that made it reappear and work ???

Where the big updates are a real pain is with the cut down laptops that only have 32GB SSDs. I have one of those too but got so fed up having to go through hoops regularly to get updates to install that I gave up and put Linux on it instead.

The six monthly updates are Feature Updates. The reason why you need to reinstall your Drivers is that Windows 10 installs another Driver at the time of installation.

This is why I tell people to install 10 Pro, so that they can defer the six monthly Feature Updates.
