Marriage allowance

Any issues applying online? Im 100% eligible, but when my wife applies online it says we are not eligible. We claimed it the previous year but then applied to cancel it as my wife found a job that would of moved her income above the tax free amount. However this did not work out. So we was told that the marriage allowance would continue but we would have to re apply after the tax year ends. The marriage allowance is showing as 'canceled' on both our tax accounts. My tax account offers the option to remove it, but it warns that it will remove it for all the years i have received it. Which also means i could have to repay it.

If you remove the transfer then it is back dated to the start and you would have to repay the tax refunded.

If you want the transfer next year your wife needs to apply again.

The option to remove refers to the marriage allowance not the cancellation

I have left my account untouched, shows that it has been canceled but not removed. My wifes account shows it has been canceled. She has tried a few times to apply but still says that our date of marriage does not meet the criteria. Definitely using the marriage allowance link. I will leave it a week and try again. Otherwise i will call them.
  • We had problems with cancelling it correctly as it wanted to cancel all years - a quick phone call and a very helpful person on the phone sorted it so only from the year we wanted got cancelled

Phone HMRC and claim that way.
