Old Style Daily Saturday 6th April

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
I woke up this morning covered in blood  as I must have scratched my leg in the night as it is so itchy at the moment. Now it is throbbing away so I will have to keep an eye on it, not the best way to start your morning. Apart from that, I slept pretty well in between waking up to use the loo.
It has been quite a busy few days for me with visitors coming to see me. I have been fighting with the black dog as well so it has been a bit of a tricky balancing act. My lovely friend has been released from hospital but she is absolutely mortified about the mess she got herself into when she was poorly. I told her she shouldn't be embarrassed as she was very ill but she has lost all her confidence. All I could do was hold her hand and give her lots of cwtches.
Lee has been cooking up a storm from the new Plenty of Nom cookbook. All the meals so far have been really nice with the exception of the salmon and broccoli crustless quiche. It was very bland and needed some cheese or something to pep it up a bit. Steve is in charge of the kitchen this weekend as usual so Lee gets a break now. We are trying to use up some of the freezer stock so I don't know what we are having for dinner today.
Well, I am off to make a cup of tea, the animals have had their breakfast and Phoebe is rushing round getting ready to leave for work. Hope you all have a great weekend whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one, also those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH enjoying first cuppa whilst watching catchup tv, DS1 gone into work and I'm showered, dressed and I've just finished my porridge - I'm working this morning too.
Now light and we've had a slight frost, so hoping it'll warm up and be a good day.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips, beans and coleslaw for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and veg.
Yesterday I got another line full of washing line dried, just put it all in the cupboard where the boiler is just to air.
We'll probably visit the parents this afternoon, as DH wants to pressure wash the patio tomorrow as it's filthy.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING. Sorry you haven't been feeling too good - those darned black dogs have a lot to answer for. By my standards I had a good sleep last night.
It's a beautiful start here and feels much milder this morning. But will it last?
I have the 3 DGDs back at teatime for a sleepover. Unusual for a w/e but it was DD's birthday t'other day and a group of them are going out tonight for pizzas and a few drinks for a late celebration.
The freezer defrost never got done last week when I promised myself it would so that's on the agenda for this morning. I have been very good at eating from the freezer and stocks are diminishing to more manageable proportions out there. I have still a vast amount of foraged fruit in the small freezer that never gets used now I am on my own, so I must do something with that,
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely and also our absent friends. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all, seems to be a quiet grey morning here.
Thank you Dumpling for starting.
I didn't have too bad a night either - i seem to have a run of goodish nights, then bad ones, I don't think about it much now, just take it as it comes. It's the tiredness though, after a few bad nights, it gets me down.
We are going away to N Yorks for a few days in the caravan tomorrow, so making preparations. It's our first jaunt of the year. I don't think the weather will be marvellous, but we're used to that!! Waterproof coats and fleece tops will be packed - my Australian Dil thinks we're utterly mad, but she thinks anything under 25 degrees is a bit chilly.
Taff, you kindly asked a few days ago if my hearing had improved, and I hadn't replied - yes, it has, got a new aid on one side, and got de-waxed by the practice nurse. Sorry, I seem to have been a bit dopey this week.
Hope everyone has as good a day as they can
Take care folks x0 -
Have a good few days away SR. DD is going Tuesday with the girls so you are not the only crazy one! Our 'van is also in N Yorks. I hope she can get the gas heater going as she will need it! We have a couple of portable heaters as back up if needed but they gobble up the electric!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Morning All
Well, it's very quiet here - DS1 and the DGC have gone home, they dropped me off in Glasgow yesterday afternoon where I met with friends for a late lunch and a few drinks, very grown up after a week of child friendly activities!
The children seemed to have a good time and the house doesn't look too bad as they played up in their new room a lot so the mess was limited, I'll have a good tidy up today, all their bedding was washed and dried outside yesterday morning which was a bonus.
Glad you are getting help with your DM Gers.
Enjoy your few days away ScarletRibbons, hope the weather stays fine for you.
Watch that leg dumpling, perhaps you could get some medical help?
The weather isn't as good as yesterday, I'll put my bedding on the rack today, there's no wind and it looks a little gloomy.
Hope you all have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning
What a gorgeous day ....spring is back :j
Countdown to freezer one becoming empty continues here. Having said that I did buy a leg of lamb yesterday from Asda whilst they were reduced so thats going to have to live in freezer one for now. The bag of something unidentifiable from yesterday turned out to be some steak so I bashed it, marinaded it and had a lovely teriyaki beef for dinnerTonight is cottage pie and a pleasing find ...some apple and blackberry crumble
Usual predictable Saturday here involving my age uk lady then cleaning and a sprinkling of chef gazing. Hoping not to wreck anything this week last weeks shower debacle was a painful hit to the finances.
Hope you all enjoy a super sunny Saturday whatever your plans0 -
Morning folks.
Thanks for starting us off Dumpling, good to 'see' you again and hope your leg heals soon.
Dreary weather outside, such a contrast to yesterday's glory. DM is still asleep though I'll be waking her shortly with tea and tablets. Still on daily injections until 22 April so need to make sure she's compos mentis for the nurse. She's never been a morning type person so this is not new.
We sat together to watch Mastermind although I had a restricted view at the side of the TV.:rotfl: I drank my tin of pink gin then.
Later I'll do some shopping, I'm getting the hang of not buying normal amounts as most is getting wasted. High protein is the way to go from now on.
I want to get out into the park, the Botanics are literally just outside DM's door so I want to go down the hill, turn right along the walkway and do a circular walk. Watch this space!
Happy Saturday to everyone - thoughts to those struggling.0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off dumpling
Nelski thank you for the update on Holly, can't believe her DB hasn't been in touch
Gers I think I will have to move to Scotland if personal and nursing care in the home are free. I don't get any help offered, DH has been discharged and I have been told to monitor his condition and let them know of any significant changes. If I need help I have to pay, can be £15-£20 per hour.
OL you must be so proud of your daughter.
Yesterday didn't do much, I spent most of the afternoon washing the leaves on my lemon tree, very exciting. Must have a bug as there was a sticky 'something' on the leaves. Should buy lemons from the sm like everyone else, would be easier.
Thoughts are with everyone finding life difficult. If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Scarlet Ribbons, enjoy your jaunt, we've been talking about going away in the camper van but will probably leave it until next month, it's so difficult to fit things in with Steve's appointments etc.
We have Ziggy again from next Wednesday until Easter Monday while Laura and Brian go to Cornwall. BTW, she had her final scan at Guy's and everything is fine, she's 11 weeks now so fingers crossed things go smoothly from now on. She's been very cautious about talking about or looking at anything baby related so far but that is starting to change - I can't wait to start shopping with her.
Talking of Ziggy, apparently she dragged her big bag of food (she's not a large dog) from the kitchen into the hall, removed the clip on it and gorged herself yesterday afternoon, naughty puppy.
Steve is golfing this afternoon and I shall get on with some sewing but that is the extent of my activities today, apart from nipping out for some bread. Tomato and chickpea curry for dinner from the freezer.0
