You must have surely gone through a few coil packs in your Corsa as well.

My son and nephew both have the 1.2 ltd 14 plate and needed col packs at 13000 miles. They too were replaced under Vauhall lifetim warranty.

As has been said already - hes had it serviced every year which suggests hes doing it every 10K or so. But yes, long service intervals dont normally help, but clearly not the problem here.

Ah i missed that bit  hhmmm im not sure then i know that corsas did have a lot of problems with the chains rattling but in the op's case its best to sell it on if they are worried about any problems with it in the future
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

  • Yes, we have had two coil packs as well. All though we have paid for those each time.

The irony is, it’s actualy Bristol Streets service people which have told me to raise a complaint with Vauxhall. Even they have said this can’t happen but it is, I was going to go down the route of the car is not fit for purpose and attempt to get compensation or see if they would swap for a similar car and mileage.

But I just can’t see them wanting to help with that because of the cars age. It’s 6 years old next month. I read up on the internet about rejecting a car, especially as Vauxhall have already had 2 attempts at fixing the problem and failed, but again they would easily argue that I have had the car for 6 years and it has driven during all that time bar the time at the garage.

I just don’t see any scenario where I can win with it, perhaps selling the car as people have suggested is the right course of action. But it’s bloody unfair on the next person that gets that car :-(

What they mean is they don't understand why.

I asked up there about the gears, the guides, the tensioner etc; and about alignment.

Quite why you haven't taken it to another Vauxhall dealer is another question.
  • I am not very technical unfortunately. They have mentioned about the tensioner. They said if they had to guess this would be the problem. That the tension isn’t sufficient and this is causing the problem with the timing chain. But they haven’t confirmed this, it’s only a theory and hasn’t been flagged up during their diagnosis of the car.

So why on earth haven't they replaced the tensioner...? First time, perhaps it's a faulty chain. Second time, something's causing it to fail - so look further. It's a spring tensioner, not an oil-pressure one, so it's unlikely to be an external cause there.

Having said that, if the tension wasn't adequate, I'd expect you to hear the chain flapping and flailing around, and there'd almost certainly be witness marks on the guides. The engine management would probably flag the cam and crank position sensors as being out of sync, too.

Mind you, I'd have expected the chain to come as part of a complete kit, including the gears, guides, tensioners. This is for the same basic engine as in your car...

Part-ex it with the dealer and put the reg number in this thread. That way a Google search will lead here and any prospective buyer will see it.

if the tensioner is oil pressure fed then the issue could be the pump
