Why Aren't Car Bulbs LED?

The Osram Nightbreakers are pretty bright though these bulbs don't have the best lifespan.
I fitted a pair of H4 Nightbreakers back in 2016. Not failed yet with quite a lot of night driving. Possibly imminent because even Osram state a much shorter lifespan than "conventional" halogens.
Excellent lighting though and, unlike most aftermarket l.e.d. lamps, legal for a reflector light unit.0 -

I work nights, 28 mile each way commute, got nearly 2 years out of them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I've gotten easily 10k miles with nightbreaker ultimates so far (Volvo, so headlights always on)...
Obviously how many months is going to depend on how many miles you're doing with the headlights on (so time of year will matter - commute in winter maybe more likely to use the headlights than in summer for instance).0
