ppi claim company court action

Hi

I used a company to reclaim my ppi. I received the ppi money back but the company want £1,000 in fees back. I didn't pay it and now the company are taking me to court. Is there anyway I could get out of not paying it ? At the time I didn't realize the fee was so much.

You entered into a contract which specified the terms. You agreed to those terms. Now you are refusing them. So, it is no wonder the CMCs will take you to court. And they will win.

As much as the regulars on this board will tell you how much they dislike CMCs and that CMCs do virtually nothing for their money, they will also tell you that if you enter into a contract with one then you should pay them. Both morally and legally.

You could sell everything, change your name and flee the country.

But otherwise no. Claims companies are very skilled at getting money out of their customers, especially those who don't read what they sign (which is just about all of them).

    You can refuse to pay

You will get a CCJ against you which will be on your record for 6 years destroying your credit rating (if you don't pay in 30 days). With a CCJ they can then set high court enforcement agents on you whose fees will double the debt and they can take your car or add on attachment of earnings etc.

    I'd suggest paying

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You mean at the time you signed a legally-binding contract which detailed exactly what their fees would be?
You can't wriggle out of paying simply by admitting you didn't read what you signed, I'm afraid

You've used their (expensive and unnecessary) service and of course you have to pay.

Hopefully, you'll read the responses here which detail exactly what the consequence of not paying their fees will be.

Their fees are a percentage of your redress... seemed more likely a case of you didn’t realise how much redress you would receive as opposed to how much their fees were.

Regardless, you have a contract and they will rightly hold you to it... I’d pay before the fees start stacking up!
