I'm a bit puzzled why a 'less clued-up user' would want to be modifying the HOSTS file?

In Windows 7 the problem with the HOSTS file was that its attributes were set to Hidden and/or System, which had to be turned off to enable Save.
Seem different in (my!) Windows 10...
