DFS woes

Options
I know I know, but DFS had the sofa I liked, and at a monthly payment I could afford.

So anyway, it was "delivered" today 4 months after ordering, apart from the fact they didn't even take it off the van.

The man took one look at the door and said "It's not going in there mate".

Alternatives were to ask the neighbour if we could use his alleyway and lift it over the fence and into the patio doors, but the neighbour was not in.

All this was AFTER I confirmed upon ordering, as well as the webpage stating, that it comes apart for easier delivery.

I have also had a larger sofa in this house from DFS that fit no problem at all.

So after several phone calls to the distribution centre, they are coming back Monday afternoon and hopefully I will be able to speak to the neighbour.

I wouldn't have ordered it had I been told that it doesn't come apart easily, but I was assured it would do.

Thankfully it was all ordered from a distance, so I can cancel it if need be, and I guess this part is my fault but I gave my old sofa away last night in preparation as I didn't have room for both, so we are now sofaless.

So annoyed, after waiting nearly 4 months for this thing to be delivered, I get to see it on the van and now it's gone again.

Frustrated is not the word

So was it able to come apart or not?. I assume the website quoted dimensions of each part when disassembled so you knew it would fit when taken apart.
If you paid to have it delivered to the room of choice and the delivery driver didn't attempt to take it apart then it sounds like they didn't do their job properly. It can't have been too difficult to take apart if the manufacturer supplied details of the size when it was apart.

Most modern sofa's have a zip part underneath that allows you to access some bolt's that hold the end parts on .

I have spoken to them, they said they are sending a different delivery team and taking the arms etc off to make it easier.

I also have a plan B, where my neighbours have said it can go through their double garden doors and over the fence, so either way it should be coming through.

The man on the phone did say that it came apart, so it looks as though the original delivery team either didn't know or couldn't be bothered to do that.

The website only shows details of the whole built unit, and not the individual parts.

To be fair, all sofas I've had over the years years came apart to some extent to cater for an average modern doorway, so does sound like the DFS delivery didn't know or couldn't be bothered. It would be daft to restrict sales to 'mansions' only....
