Bought a Used Car From Evan Halshaw, £99 Admin Fee? Feel conned :(

Whether it's a good deal or not depends on the total cost of the car including fees and extras.
If the same car is £500 cheaper than elsewhere but with a £200 fee, that's still the better deal.
If the fee makes it more expensive than at a different dealer then either suck it up or go there instead.0 -
^ Even if it works out cheaper than elsewhere it's the principle of it. I know I won't pay any extra "admin" fee to buy a car. Same as you wouldn't on your weekly shopping.0

In which case maybe https://www.standingbymyprinciplesexpert.co.uk is the site for you :rotfl:0 -
They may have breached the rules on additional charges under CCRs but I'd first ask....what was in the paperwork you signed and was it made clear in that? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

No, just asking for the none compulsory £99 admin fee to be removed then it would be an even better deal. Wouldn't it.
And no 2 cars are the same unless you are buying brand new with delivery mileage only.0 -
There are stickers on the windscreens that tell you the fee is optional. The Advertising Standards Authority looked at this fee in relation to advertised prices for the car and were happy that it was a genuine option and therefore did not need to be included in any advertised price.

You should point this out to the dealership and insist the admin charge is removed0 -
No, they should buy as much as they need.
Fair enough, but as the OP has stated that this is their first car purchase, I think it needs to be made clear that they need to SORN the vehicle to avoid the risk of a £100 fine for having an uninsured vehicle. I’m not sure how easy it would be to SORN a vehicle before you have the full V5 document in your own name, so there is a risk that the OP falls foul of this by waiting a month to take out the insurance.0 -
And are you paying for a month's road tax just to take it home, as well as a days insurance?
It strikes me that the enthusiasm to buy the car is overwhelming your senses.
Ring the dealer up, tell him you can't raise the money and will come back at the end of the month. Then you tell him to forget the £99 admin fee also."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
