O/S Daily Friday 5th April 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly personx
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light here and cold start again, cloudy too. Yesterday was a cold start but then brightened up and we had a good amount of sunshine with a breeze which got up around lunchtime, hence a good line full of washing line dried. I have more to put out today.
DH up and getting ready for work as is DS1, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and porridge whilst on here. DS2 ok and settled.
Dinner last night was naughty fry up. Tonight will be something quick and easy.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I did a quick go over the housework and cleaned the bathrooms, also sorted the dried washing, and a small pile of ironing needs doing today, I'll get that done once I get home from food shopping and have put that away. I spent some time yesterday checking what we have in the cupboards and freezers so I can use some of that up as the outside freezer desperately needs de-frosting so want to use up the contents. Also need to get the shopping bill down as much as possible as this month is an expensive month for us. I'm also trying not to buy things on offer that then get wasted.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC.
OL what brilliant work your DD and her DP are doing. You must be so proud of them.
Flying visit off me. The 3 DGDs to rouse up shortly and get organised for school. Last day today, early break up for Easter.
Then the excitement of the Friday Tidy. Every week I promise myself I will spread it out over a few days but it never seems to happen. It's getting harder work trying to tackle everywhere in one day.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Its a bit grey here this morning but meant to brighten up later on, its also very cold, the weekend is meant to be better though.
The Friday tidier will be here todayso will all be nice by the time I get home from work, I love coming home on Fridays to a clean tidy house its such a treat.
Something quick and easy for dinner tonight might so some oven fish and chips and there is wine in the fridge ready and waiting !
Right I had better get on and get ready for my day.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning
Chilly again this morning
Nothing exciting on the agenda today...work, shop, tidy then work again tonight.
Spoke to our Holly yesterday and she's coping ...2 weeks of the daily radiotherapy left so half way through now. It's knocking her for six but she is being sensible and sleeping when she needs too. Bit annoyed with her brother who hasn't been round or even rang her since the treatment started. She copes well on her own but he could at least ring her he knows how much she has been through. Really wish I lived closer.
Glamorgan sausages were lush last night will pop them on the list of things to cook again for the restock. Today I haven't got a clue what is in the bag...I think its some form of meat possible uncooked. Its the Great British Freezer MysteryWill report back when its defrosted enough to make out its origin
Hope everyone has a good day and that all those Friday Tidies leave you spick and span0 -
Good morning, and thanks NMLC
It seems nice here weatherwise, hope it lasts.
It's the usual jobs here, and I need to shop for the caravan. I keep a stock of tinned and dried foods in over the spring/summer months, it's handy.
Going to the theatre tonight in Newcastle, Dil is going with a party, and someone couldn't go now, So I'm going. They are meeting for a meal after work first,, but I'll just meet them at the theatre.
That's it really - hope everyone is ok.
Take care folks0 -
Morning chums,
It's Friday!!
You know those moments when you want the world to swallow you up? I had one last night...long story. We laughed about it though (thankfully).
My sesame chicken broccoli was lovely, for sure be making it again. No cooking for the next 2 days as I leave straight after work to head back up to Glasgow for a couple of days with a super busy schedule of seeing people;
Friday -Dinner with my mum ans SD
Saturday -Brunch at my Dads, Visit my ex-colleagues daughters 1st bday party, Lunch with my cousins, Dinner with my mate
Sunday - Breakfast with my mum and SD, Lunch with my gran, Drive home
I'm looking forward to it but I'm not looking forward to the filling my tank with petrol twice! Oh well, I made my bed I suppose...
Taff - Is life hectic? Yeah it is a bit, but I don't mind it. It keeps me switched on. A tiny little small part of me is envious of people who are content and comfortable with a secure, local job. Absolutely nothing wrong with that btw, but for me, the 'rat race' motivates me. I'll survive - I hope.
OL - Such a sad state in South Africa that something like that needs to be put in place. Fantastic work from the girls!0 -
Morning everyone,
Thanks for the update on our Holly, Nelski that’s a bit rough by her brother isn’t it, please pass on my best when you next speak x
Still here and plodding along, back is easing up a tad which helps my mobility but looking round the house it could do with a go through so will try to get some done today, I also want to visit the butchers to pick up some meat for the freezer as there is only fish left in there at the moment.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning folks.
Bright and sunny in Glasgow :j
I'm up and showered, am sitting wrapped in a towel trying to overcome inertia. We had a very busy day yesterday. I had to call out the GP for DM, as he was here the two DNs arrived to do a procedure on DM and the community physio arrived. After all that I zoomed out to pick up a script and get it filled. There were 12 calls to make or take about DM.
One of the upshots is that we will get home support at least once a day as I'm really struggling to cope. As one of the medics pointed out, I'm doing all the work of the whole ward team previously. DM is still not eating or drinking or getting out of bed so outside encouragement is needed. The home care OT is coming this morning, with the PT, to do an assessment.
This afternoon I'm having my hair cut. :j it's so long and a cut is well overdue. The telecare folk wanted to come in to install another piece of equipment today but I said 'no', I've now cancelled and rearranged my hair cut three times. They'll come on Monday now.
I have no idea what's to eat.
My thoughts are with all those struggling, especially if they are not up to posting, perhaps they are still reading.
Happy Friday everyone.0 -
Morning all! Had to force the cat out to go home and eat, so what did he do? Went to the tree at the back and climbed it looking for birds...Their door must be open because his sister has just turned up.
Today I have nothing planned, i got my plates yesterday [ok, and a few other bits], two bowls, a replacement saucepan for one that has been scratched because I don't like eating Teflon with food, and six more teasponns because the teaspon monster eats them apparently.
I think tackling the clothes mountain on my small chest of drawers is in order, and what I can't repurpose, will go to ebay.
Hope your doc visit is successful csarina. TA, don't sweat the small stuff...Nelski, it's still enjoyable though...isn't it? is it? I'll probably watch the whole thing again for tipsOL, things are looking up for all of you then, you must be really proud of your daughter, sad that it's necessary too though. Gers, hope the medical people can persuade her to get up more often, it's so easy to slip into doing nothing [ I know, I've done it, hence the weight gain] and to forget that pain is good for you sometimes.
Wotcha poorlies and absentees...
Fandango Friday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Afternoon all. Gers hope that the support that you and Mum need is put in place swiftly. Holly if you are teading along take care.
A quiet day today after the excitement of the Tosco delivery and friends round for coffee. I have cleaned the bathroom, stripped my bed and washed the bedding and washed the kitchen and bathroom floors. Feet up this afternoon I think.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

Afternoon all.
The snow didn't last too long yesterday, but we've had rain on and off all day today.
We had a bit of a nightmare this morning ! Dad rang in a panic early as he woke to water coming through his bedroom ceiling, he got up, put the light on and bang - blew all the electrics . Hence he called in the cavalry! Mr Fix It has secured/isolated the light fitting, renewed the power to the house and spent some time on the phone to Dad's insurance company. I changed the bed, dried the duvet ( luckily only one end was wet ) and washed the bedding. I've remade the bed and moped up the water, most of which fell on the ottoman and hoovered up the plaster. I did try to get him into the other bedroom which was DMs, but he wouldn't hear of it. So he now has 2 buckets at the bottom of his bed to catch the drips .
We had to call in at Dad's surgery to collect his script, then on to Mr Fix It's for his script and lastly the chemist to get them both filled. Between them I needed a wheel barrow to carry all the meds :rotfl: On the way back we visited the local shop for a loaf of bread for Dad . We are now home and waiting for a call from a roofing company.
No Friday tidy here today, but I did hoover the dining room yesterday and clean down the kitchen, the rest will have to wait until tomorrow........ unless three's another disaster to avert  .
I have no idea what tea will be again today, but I found some lasagne for yesterday. When you have a memory like mine it's a daily surprise as to what's in the freezer :rotfl:. I only looked yesterday and I have forgotten already. ( and even if I wrote a list I'll lose that :rotfl:. )
Nelski :A thank you for the update on our Holly. Give her my love and best wishes too please.
The Great British Freezer Mystery is a wonderful idea for a new TV show :j. I shall have to be one of the first contestants though. Even if I remembered to label things, which I rarely do, the darn things would fall off and I'd find a big soggy mess of them at the bottom of the freezer :rotfl:
Gers I'm glad that you are getting extra help with your DM. Take care of yourself too, as it must be very hard/stressful to care for your DM on your own. I'm very lucky that I have Mr Fix It to lean on :A
Spekynow don't keep us in suspense .......... what happened ?
. We've all been there, done that etc... But I'm glad you had a happy ending.
Right I'm going to get a coffee and put my feet up too before I go for another freezer dip.
Take care and hugs to all.
nan xx
PS sorry LW only just read your post from yesterday. I hope your injuries are minimal and you get well soon. I am sending healing vibes to you and MR LW
Dangers :hello:whoo hoo:hello: !! I can see the estuary, on a clear day, from our bedroom window.
MeanMarie such a sad story about your friend. It's another dreadful illness.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
