I wouldn't worry about having kids in a 1 bed.

A friend of mine and her husband had a tiny 1 bed, had a baby (planned), then had a second baby 14 months later as they wanted them close in age. Baby 2 turned out to be twins!!

They ended up with the 3 kids sharing the bedroom and they slept in the lounge!

Kids don't have to take up lots of space!

We had two kids in a 1 bed flat for a while. With baby no 1, we decided to stay for a while until it was a better time to sell. We intended to move just before no 2 arrived but things didn't go according to plan, so we moved out when she was 6 months old. It wasn't perfect... but you just get on with things and small kids don't care (or know any different).

i suggest you stop overpaying for now, it appears you are disappointed and not happy with your flat. i can assure you, you haven't done anything wrong, people do make mistake every now and then.
my advice is to stop overpaying for now, and pay the normal mortgage payment every month, and put your house back on the market, hopefully you will see someone who will be willing to pay as much too, and then you move and take your time to search and buy another property without making same similar mistake.
you live you learn......just my advice
