I was wondering if anyone who knows about funds and investing would mind giving me their opinions. I'm trying to go for a good mix that covers a few different things happening in the market.
At the moment, I have the following in my portfolio:
AXA Framlington UK Select Opportunities (40%)
Marlborough Special Situations (20%)
Merian UK Mid Cap (10%)
Standard Life UK Smaller Companies (5%)
Stewart Investors Global Emerging Market Leaders (10%)
Witan Investment Trust (15%)
Is there anything else I should consider adding to the mix?
edit: forgot to add Witan

To put matters into perspective how much money do you have invested in total?0

90% in the UK eh? Well, thats very confident in the Brexit outcome. All or nothing?
You are Boris Johnson and I claim my £5*.
Alternatively, you have a feeling that the entire rest of the world is a waste of economic space. Very, errm, iconoclastic. And risky. Like, on a scale of 1-10, this is 95.
Alternatively, alternatively, you have failed to understand what "a few different things happening in the market" mean unless by "the market" you just mean the 6% GDP that applies to the UK and you think the other 94% is a "meh".USA? pah. China? Where? Europe? Huh. Asia? Nah dont rate that. Samsung who?
* apologies if you are under 60 and have no idea what I'm on about.0 -
Something that wasn't UK suggests itself. That EM fund is fine, I have a little of it myself, but as a lunch analogy your portfolio looks like a plate of potatoes and two tablespoons of mustard. Where is the meat and green veg?Is there anything else I should consider adding to the mix?0 -

You're totally right, it's quite UK heavy! Do you have any suggestions for how I should mix in some other countries?AnotherJoe wrote: »90% in the UK eh? Well, thats very confident in the Brexit outcome. All or nothing?

I forgot to add my Witan Investment too by the way, but yes, I see now that I've ignored the rest of the world completely. For values of "quite" = "completely over the top to a level beyond utter recklessness" yep.

Is "buy a global fund that excludes the UK" too obvious?0 -
Assuming that you are investing for 10+ years then investing in a core global, plus a smallish %age in small caps, would cover a lot happening in the market. I would only begin adding condiments when the portfolio is approaching £100k.I'm trying to go for a good mix that covers a few different things happening in the market.0 -

Thanks for that, what sort of funds don't have anything in the UK?0 -
Funds that either obviously don't, lets say a "China" or a "USA" or a "S&P500" or an "Asia" fund, or any Global or European fund that has "ex UK" in its name (= excluding UK)0
