Halifax Closing Current Account

Yes it could be something as simple as they have spotted that you are using the account to feed various other accounts and are just getting a bit fed up of that
to be fair it is pretty much what everybody on this board is doing but maybe you have just got caught out I really wouldn't worry about it
I don't think it is anything that is in anyway fraudulent or illegal or anything like that and I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep on it just move away from them and move on
manana springs to mind0 -
Check your credit files to see if there has been a CIFAS marker put on your file.
I'm not sure that a CIFAS marker will show on a credit file, the usual advice is to submit a SAR to CIFAS.

Starting to get a bit nervous this banking group is going to have me on it's hit list some time
To be fair, I only opened the Halifax one to get the switching bonus and £2 a month, and swap £1500 with Lloyds Bank to satisfy pay ins (got my free Cinema tickets for the year)
It's not difficult to spot a banking tart (no other reason for them to close me down).
Maybe I should close the Halifax one once I get the final switch bonus, unless they get me first :think:Retired 1st July 2021.
This is not investment advice.

They urge us to give this letter our urgent attention and seek alternative arrangements.
If they were closing your account because of (suspected) fraud they would suspend it immediately.
The fact they've given you notice suggests that, for whatever reason, they don't want you as a customer any longer.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The decision is likely to have been made by a computer and isn't personal.0 -

But I’ve been doing this for years, perhaps Halifax just got fed up! I have an awful lot of untangling to do in the next two months.
Thanks again, all very helpful.
I note that you have avoided the question of why your wages are paid into a joint account when all the other accounts are presumably sole accounts. Most people would have their wages paid into a sole account and transfer an appropriate amount to the joint account to cover bills and shopping etc. You have also avoided responding to the question of the possibility that this action on the part of Halifax is connected to the second account holder rather than you.0 -

With increasing regulation being placed on the banks. Easiest approach is to kick account holders into touch. The fact that your activity has come to their attention means that they are monitoring your account. In itself at a cost. While the UK enjoys current account free banking at the current time. Losing unprofitable customers off their books seems a pragmatic approach.0 -
This thread may be useful from when my accounts were closed. Like you I had notice given rather than being closed immediately. Never had any CIFAS and all my other bank accounts outside LBG were unaffected.

tsb earns 3% on £1500 etc etc.
5%.......
I have Lloyds, BOS and Halifax accounts......will I be next on the list?:eek:0 -
I've shut down using Lloyds as my banking tart hub, and moving it to Tesco which even when it drops to 1% will do the job.
Will keep Halifax until I get the switch bonus, and then decide whether to keep the £2/month Reward going.Retired 1st July 2021.
