HP printer not printing in colour

Suddenly everything I send to my HP Envy 5540 printer comes out in grey shades instead of colour. However test pages produced by the printer come out in colour and so do pages from my separate laptop.
So I deduce some settings have changed on my PC. The problem affects at least two programs so it is not just a Word problem.
I have looked at various pages on google, uninstalled all HP programs and reinstalled them again without success. One blog said toggle the switch between grey scale and colour but I can't find this anywhere on my version of Windows 10.
Any suggestions for recovering the colour print function would be appreciated.

  • I’d guess it’s set to print grayscale, you need to change back to colour, there should be an option when you select print.

    Have you tried HP Support?

I don't seem to get the option of grey or colour when I click print. I am running the latest version of Office that came out a few months ago.

    Try:
    Settings
    Devices
    Printers & scanners
    click on your printer
    manage
    printing preferences
    color
and there should be a grayscale box

  • Is it a wireless printer? If so, I had the same problem a number of months ago when printing over a wireless connection from one computer. There is a diagnostic check you can run within the hp software which should fix it but as far as I can recall, it essentially involved uninstalling and reinstalling the driver on that particular computer.

OP if you find a solution,do post back. I have the same printer and same issue from my Dell laptop. Others in the house have no problem. I've messed around with the settings, tried support options, troubleshooting etc & installed & uninstalled drivers until I'm blue in the face
