O/S Daily Thursday 4th April 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Cold and frosty start to the day here.
Hugs to those that want/need one, and to those that are poorly and those looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppas and my porridge whilst on here.
Dinner last night was roasted chicken portions with pasta in a mushroom sauce and a side serving of onion rings. Not sure about tonight but can sort that today. I'm now on days' off, so have the usual "to do" list to work my way through. I'll be putting the WM on shortly, haven't done any washing the last couple of days as didn't have enough to make a load and everything was washed and dried up to date as I'd washed a load every day during the warm sunny weather and was getting it line dried daily. Sadly we seem to have backtracked to winter again!
I'll be heading into town first thing to visit the bank and building society and a couple of other shops, then home to do the housework and washing drying and ironing etc. I also want to strip a bed and get the bed linen washed and fresh put on.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Brr another cold start but those who know say it will get a bit warmer from tomorrow.
Flying visit from me as the DGDs will be to get up and organised, fed and watered, ready for school shortly. Youngest off on a school trip to a farm. Not a good day for it.
It wasn't a good day for being on a very cold caravan site yesterday either! Especially as we couldn't get the gas heater in the 'van working!! We had to resort to electric mode and it gets nowhere near as warm. We were frozen stiff. Anyway we got all done we wanted and the awning with all it's new stuff looks lovely. I hope the weather does improve as the girls break up from school tomorrow for Easter and DD is wanting to take them next Tuesday for a few days.
It's DD's birthday today. 46 - doesn't seem two minutes since I was in the throes of giving birth!
Aldi day today and not yet compiled my list. DS is taking me, then coming back for early lunch before he heads off to work. Then I have the Thursday fix to make for the girlies coming back for late tea (swimming day) and another sleepover.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
LameWolf good to 'see' you, how's Mr Wolf doing?
Thoughts are with Holly, Poppy, Ger and her DM and all those struggling with life
Cold this morning, feels like winter is back. I received a cheque, haven't had one of those for ages, so need to put it into the bank before I misplace it. Not much else planned.
Take care allIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning, it'grey and wet here, but supposed to improve by this afternoon.
I wasn't out at all yesterday, just did the usual household jobs, and started to catch up on some bits of sewing that need doing, I 'll continue today with them, there's not much to do.
I might meet a friend later this morning, she'll let me know if she's coming out, and I have a small shopping list.
I put some steak and kidney in the slow cooker last night, for today, and I don't think the steak is the best I've ever tasted. I usually buy shin (or hough, as my mother used to call it) from Morries, or the butchers, but I can't remember where this is from.
These things often taste better the next day, we'll see. It's not off or anything, it's just that I've tasted nicer. never mind, with a pastry lid on it and some veg it'll be edible.
TA , the electric heating in our touring caravan takes an age to make itself felt, but the gas heater is much better, as you say. Hope you get yours fixed. We always have a fan heater in the caravan for really instant warmth, but of course you have to be careful about plugging too many thing in at once, and going above the amperage, thereby blowing the electrics.
I didn't have too bad a night, by my standards, so feel quite spry this morning.
Hope everyone else is ok, thinking of our poorly friends on here.
Take care folks0 -
Morning all
Pouring down here and we have just had a really loud thunder clap, it shook the front door !! Evie is in her blanket fort on the sofa she hates loud noises !!
Work today and a busy Thursday with lots of people in the kitchen, and one extra today as his group lead in on holiday so we have him as a favour, the trouble is he clashes with another of our clients and they almost come to blows  so a fraught day ahead !! We need to make cheese scones and cookies today.
We had the gammon joint last night with some chips and an egg it was lovely will have some more tonight in a carbonara I think.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all.
Very cold and wet here.
I had hoped to get out and back in early doors though realised that my plan wouldn't work so didn't bother! This morning DM is having a visitor, then the DN and finally in early afternoon the physio is coming.
I've dug out the swimming gear I left here last year as I want to get back into at least some form of exercise. Sitting here hanging around all day is not good for me. Once the daily visit by the DN for injection giving is over (22 April) then I won't feel so tied to the house. By that time DM must surely be better??
Whilst I was up early I did some online banking stuff and opened a new regular saver account. My income will now be severely limited as I've mostly resigned from work. The plan was to work until the end of the academic year and then retire as my SP kicks in sometime in July. Leaving the main part of my job where most of the income came from five months early will have an impact. I am well cushioned but must be careful now.
I wish everyone a happy Thursday, hugs all round.0 -
Morning everyone,
Sunny here but bbrrr cold with a hard frost.
I will pop in to town this morning to drop off a few bits at the CS and possibly visit the library, it’s not the best and I really must get online to see what else I can order in.
Later I will go over to see Lu and hopefully have a little sit on, the first time this week, my back is still sore but not as bad as it was and I miss riding my horse!
Talking of which, how is your mare Mehefin, any better?
Thinking of Holly, AOD, Gers and all those who are struggling at the moment.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning everyone,
Lovely, crisp morning but its freezing!
Got my dates mixed up and forgot football training moved from last night to tonight, so accidentally no gym yesterday or today. Last nights dinner was cauliflower mac n cheese, without the cheddar cheese as it had went mouldy. So I just had mac. Still was surprisingly alright thanks to the cream and soft cheese.
I've got a check up at the docs after work today, so I'll be off sharpish. Then home for sesame chicken with broccoli - then football training!
SO - Always good to cheque in the mail!0 -
Morning all! Absolutely chucking it down here, the little prince came in like a drowned rat. He's now snoozing on the blanket on the sofa. somewhere I'd quite like to be because plans for a lie in were scuppered.
I think I'm going to go for a drve today, I won't get anything done if I stay in the house.
Sewing was on last night, so I took chocolate covered raisins which ticked both boxes...:) she shouldn't be doing it because she's really not well enough but she's another stubborn one.
Curry from the freezer for tonight I think, and I have now got the hang of cooking rice properly [1 part rice to two parts water for sticky rice - bought a big bag on the cheap a while ago] so it'll be a Methi chicken and a chicken madras. There's also a packet of M&S onion bhajis that my sister left so they'll get used too.
Tell your mam I hope she gets better soon Gers, and also tell her to move herself, she won't get mobile doing nothing....AOD, heyNelski, what's on the menu today? Speky, you seem to be a bit all over the place at the moment, is the big city life a bit hectic? TA, happy birthday to your DD. Csarina, oh no, rubbish meds, can they change them? Lainey and mehefin, hope your horses are ok, enjoy the riding today if you get to it. SO, oooo, mystery cheques! i like it. Need a hand spending it?
Scarlet, hows your hearing now? Holly, sounds like the fatigue has kicked in, hope you're doing OK despite it. I bought an insanely expensive recommended moisturiser [ £7!!] so it had better work.
snoozer, yes, she had flair and good sewing, I liked her stuff, although I think ricardo came a very close second...
Wotcha absentees....
Ticking along Thursday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Morning all from a very wet and cold mehefinland ( with a yellow warning for snow too )
News on bruisemare is not good. Had to have vet out on Saturday afternoon as she was in a right state. The vet thinks she has laminitis , purely because she is constantly shifting her weight and has a rapid digital pulse in all her feet. We and stevie2shoes are not convinced! There is no heat in the hooves ( a classic symptom) and when he used the hoof testers ( it applies pressure in different parts of the foot) there was no reaction whatsoever. So for the moment she is on deep litter box rest, 4 bute a day  and a strict diet.
Scoobymare has the equine equivalent of a smirk re the last bit :rotfl:.
So with all the extra work, checking on her, worrying ( especially at night) etc. I am pretty knackered.
Another vet due tomorrow to give Bruise her flu jab so we will re-assess her then.
Otherwise life drags on as usual. Lainey can you order books from other libraries in the county online? I do it lots here as our library is only small ( and run by volunteers) and they send them over quite quickly as a rule. They do DVD and talking books the same way too.
Hugs and spoons to those in need. Keep warm folks

TAFF I thought Riccardo excelled more with tailoring - that coat he made the other week was beautiful (except for the sleeves!) it seemed to be dresses that let him down. I loved him but he was a bit hit and miss at times.
Sat here waiting for DS and the Aldi run. It's still fine here but bloomin' cold. The heating is being left on. After being frozen stiff yesterday at the 'van today I need warmth!
NELSKI have you heard any more from HOLLY? I often think of POPPY too and wonder how she is. xx
ps MEHEFIN double posting - ((HUGS)) for the poorly animals too x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
