High energy bills with Outfox The Market

Hi
My friend helped me switch from a company called Our Power to Outfox The Market on 17th November. My friend forgot to pass on the meter readings so the bills up until now were estimated. It turns out I had underpaid by £464. Fair enough but I had been paying around £150 by direct debit each month. When I total it up then, now that the readings have been taken, for period 17.11.2018 - 16.04.2018 I have been billed a total of £1018. That seems a lot for 5 months?

I live alone in a three bedroom stone cottage. I admit the heaters are on full in nearly every room, which I will turn down now but my boiler, a combi only a few years old is set on a timer.

I did admit I did have the heating on all day on some periods during the winter months but not every day.

Outfox advised
Your electricity unit rate is currently 12.98p and your gas unit rate is 3.44p. However you are on the Zapp! Tariff which is a variable tariff meaning charges can increase or decrease at any time.

Is this correct?

At one time Outfox were the cheapest available but the tariff was variable so yes it can increase but your unit rates are not too over the top.

Appliances do not burn £s they burn kWhs so what is your use over the period ? That cost means you are using a fair amount !

The big problem you have there is the use of estimated opening readings. Do those match up with the closing reading used by the previous supplier ? How does this use stack up against previous use ?

You need to be taking readings maybe daily for a while, then weekly then monthly to get a hang of what you are actually using.
