Most lenders tend to give lowish limits to start with so you can 'prove' your credit-worthiness to them before they increase it.
Amex are good.Savings - £18,500 @ 5.22% Average0 -
I have egg money - £3500 (this is low because it's a hybrid card)
Capital one - £7500 (although lots of people are being refused the card at all so you need an excellent credit rating).
MBNA - £11000 - have always found MBNA to give good limits.
Used to have the Egg card with £15K but since closed that.
Have you checked your 3 credit reports to see if there are any errors or problems.
This can either be free or £2 each.
At the moment there is a banking crisis (credit crunch) going on so this may be nothing personal.
Other explanations are problems on your credit report or simply you have not got enough history.
I you haven't got enough then all you can do is to manage you money sensibly and build it up over time.
Have you asked your existing card company for an increase.
If you've had them for at least 3 months and managed them well then request an increase. If you make it reasonable then you are more likely to be accepted e.g. £1000 and not £5000. You can always ask again in time but asking for too much in one go might scupper your chances.0 -
Capital One gave me my most recent large (£10,000) limit. Nothing else close to that in ages.0

Yes, just to add it also depends on which card you get.
I got £15K on Egg visa but only £3K on Egg money (which I later increased by asking).
This is because one's a proper credit card and the other is a hybrid debit/credit card which is a different product, so it will depend.
Nevertheless the same rules apply.
1) Get and check all 3 credit report and amedn any errors.
2) If little history then start with companies that you already have history with e.g. raising your existing limits.
3) Don't ask to raise limits too high or too often. Leave at least 3 months.
4) Don't apply for too many cards together as too many credit checks is bad.
5) Make sure you pay everything off on time to build up a good history.0 -

I would consider a credit limit of £500 to be extremely poor, but there is probably a very good reason why you have such a low limit which could be because :-
1. You don't have much of a credit history because you're new to finance or
2. You have something on your credit history which is limiting what you get or
3. You're not in their opinion worthy of a higher limit.
What limits other people have on their own cards makes no difference whatsover to what you may be able to obtain.0 -

I think you are right with your your option 1, i am in to credit or banking since last year july. Probably that is the reason but if i am earning good money and paying every thing on credit card which i use then i think i should have a bit upper hand.
Thanks0 -

If you have only been working on your credit files for a year then forget high limits for another 2/3 years....... Just keep potering away and it will come.0
