A few days ago I applied for an energy supplier switch from Flow Energy to Toto as this was the best deal for me. I then recieved the final info to set up my Direct Debit at just ovedr £108 a month only to find they were going to take £216 (i.e.DOUBLE!) on the first payment. I objected and asked for a reason and thed following was the reply. Outragious!
Hello Ron,
Thank you for contacting us.
We apologise for the confusion. Unfortunately, this preliminary larger one-off payment is company policy.
You'll notice this payment detailed in the welcome pack under your payment information, this is to protect your account in case your direct debit was estimated incorrectly or there are any irregular spikes in usage over the first few months.
Your second payment will then be one month later which is the agreed amount.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries.

Why are you proposing to charge double the agreed monthly amount on this contract at £216.86 instead of £108.43??
Please advise before I sign with you. Thanks

No it's not great but it seems all companies do similar these days, as in they advertise one price to entice you and then charge another.0

* All of the small comapnies.
You still pay less overall, but more upfront. Your choice to make, they say so in the terms.
And no, they advertise the price you get, you just do not pay attention to something commonly known.0 -
All the small companies I have used charge a normal DD amount up front, not a double.
