The bank should have at least warned me when I was making the payment or told me about the auto sort code update when I phoned up. All along I thought it was my mistake.
Happy days anyway, I can now look forward to my new car tomorrow :beer:
How would the bank you were paying *from* know if a sort-code migration in the bank you were paying *to*?
Even if they were in the same bank, that would mean that all out-going transfers would have be checked against a list of migrated sort-codes, which would slow the process down. Is that really worth it for a tiny number of edge-cases like this?0 -
I've had payments stopped for doing this that. Can't remember which bank, but they still went through after I had spoken to the fraud department. I take your point, but the bank should of at least told me over the phone that there was a possibility the payment may have been re directed due to an old sort code being used, instead of giving me the standard blurb on how they will investigate and come back to me within two working days and theirs no guarantee I will get my money back.
It's not the bank fault at all but the company I was making the payment to who provided me with outdated bank details in the first place.
The quicker the account name check comes into play the better.
