Sending contracts back...

This is probably totally the wrong forum to post this but, I posted my contract back to our solicitors this morning in large letter (large in size but only about 3 sheets of paper inside so not heavy). I put it in a normal post box and I used one first class stamp instead of a large letter stamp...

I never post anything so never know what bloody stamp I'm meant to use! I didn't realise until afterwards

We're hoping to exchange this week as we're completing next Friday so really wanted it to get there tomorrow.

Will it still make it? If not, will it get sent back to me or will it just go on a slower service?

It'll get there as normal and the postie will ask the solicitor to pay the surcharge if they want to receive it - which they almost certainly will, given it would be more hassle for them to send important mail back to sender.

You know you can fold three sheets of A4 and they'll fit in a "normal" size envelope, right?

Thank you! I hope you're correct. I could do without the stress of them having to send out another contract especially as they seem to send everything snail mail as it is. Every time they have sent us paperwork it has taken about a week for it to reach us...

Yes I am fully aware thank you.

What I'm saying is, we had large envelopes and didn't think and just used those. I didn't realise you needed a different stamp for large letters until someone pointed it out to me this morning. I probably post a letter once a year if that...

This is why (more sensible) solicitors send pre-paid envelopes with things like this...

This is why I used a local solicitor and dropped in my documents personally as well as signing my contracts in their offices.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Lol, not everyone sells and then buys just round the corner ;)

This doesn't make any sense. If you use a solicitor just round the corner from where you LIVE, it doesn't matter if you're selling a property you own five counties away and buying one at the other end of the country...!

I don't think postmen collect excess postage any more. It is quite possibly being held at the solicitor's local delivery office and a card sent to the solicitor asking them to pay the excess postage before it is delivered. Despite this sometimes things with incorrect postage are delivered regardless.

As it is urgent I would contact the solicitor. If they have not received it maybe it would be possible for you to go to their office to sign another copy.
