My internet works well (up to 9mbs) when just my computor online but when OH's online internet goes very, very slowly.

I am sure something is constantly downloading/uploading on her computor.

We have done a malware check and all seems ok

How can I check what is causing this?

Something has to be running on the computer to drag internet speed of all the others down. Usually this is P2P software - stuff like BitTorrent for example - that causes this.

Start task manager and look at the programs that are running. You would know if you were downloading a torrent as the program would be showing on the task bar.

for a more complete picture in addition to the above please confirm that you are using wifi, or cable?

Are you in a block of flats, and have other wifi devices or doorbells, baby monitors around?

Station what make and model of router is involved and who is the isp?

Apple, mac, linux etc on a computer, android phone, tablet, chrome book?

Has it ever worked? Why this now?

This info may or may not help others?

However there are 2 free useful utilities TCPView from sysinternals, and TCPLog from https://www.nirsoft.net. Both slightly different, but similar. The first one may be better.

Without doing any investigation I would be thinking along the lines of router

there is another bit of software for nirsoft called FileActivityWatch as the data transferred is often read or written, strickly speaking data does not have to be saved or read from disk, but it usually is.

You can try the above three bits of software. They do not install and just run, so when you exit out if them or reboot they will no longer monitor

firstly I would run malwarebytes and a/v on all. They probably will be clean, but it is easy to do.

Second would turn all the PCs on and turn one of yours on and do a speed test, write down the answer and switch yours off. Then do the same to hers.
Now switch on both computers, do a speed rest at the exact same time on each and write down the results. Would have thought the wired one would be quicker though?

On yours and hers get a cmd box and type 'ipconfig /all'. Both your ip, network controller, and mac (physical address) should be different, ignore the Lease dates, but the rest is probably the same?

thirdly from a dos box ( command prompt, dos console etc) type on each computer 'tracert bbc.co.uk' and press return at the same time on each. again would expect a better result on the wired one

For a first quick check, on your OH's computer open a command prompt window as administrator and enter the command "netstat -b" to see if that identifies any connections belonging to applications you don't recognise.

Whilst this is good advice I get the impression that the OP doesn't have enough technical knowledge to be able to understand the results.

OP - what sort of Internet activity are you doing? What sort of activity is she doing? If you're both downloading stuff, or streaming stuff (Iplayer, YouTube etc.) at the same time then it could be as simple as that your broadband speed isn't fast enough.
