PayPal echeque received, NOT ELIGIBLE for seller’s protection

As above really
I’ve received an echeque via PayPal and the email notification has come through telling me that the transaction is not eligible for seller’s protection.
So not only do I have to wait 5-7 days for my money, I’m then not protected when I send my item?
How is that fair on a seller? What would you do?

What was the item/payment for?
Most echeques aren't eligible until they clear, then you get an update on the transaction saying whether its eligible or not......without knowing what the item was its difficult to know.
If you don't want to say, then wait and see what the transaction says when it clears.0 -
I think it means not eligible for protection if you were to send it now (before it clears) . Do definitely wait for it to clear. Ebay, luckily, puts them in "unpaid" folder so no problem there.
I had one a few weeks ago, didn't even know they did them anymore (they were more common in the past). Anyway, it never cleared and I never heard anything from the buyer- had to open unpaid item case.
If I understand correctly it happens if the buyer doesn't have a bank card linked to paypal and no balance in paypal to pay for an item.0 -
About the echeque. It's normally because the seller doesn't have the balance in their PP account, so PP send on an e-cheque. Atleast that's how it used to be and would have to wait a week-ish for the money to be received.
As a seller, I had this one year for an expensive laptop - I had taken a good bit of my balance and transferred to my linked bank account since wife and I were off travelling for a few months. The purchaser had issues with said laptop so returned it. Think the laptop was £1500, and my balance was something like £1300 so PP sent an echeque which was obviously not great for the buyer. I apologised profusely and he was good about it and received his refund about a week later. Learnt my lesson so now always keep a good bit of PP balance aside in case of buyer demanding refunds.0 -
