Extra Energy - debt, no idea what's going on?

Options
Hi

I was one of the lucky/unlucky extra energy customers to be put over to Scottish power. That's all I know though, that I'm now on Scottish power.

I had about £2k of debt with Extra energy, and I have not been told anything about that?

Anyone know what's going?

Keep it in an interest bearing account until you get asked for it

    You owe them £2k?

When did they go bust ?

I was with Economy Energy, they went bust on 7th January, I'm still awaiting my final bill and notice of my £400+ credit that I had with them.
  • Yes, I owe ExtraE 2k,

They went bust in about november 2018.

The receivers will come knocking at some point, don't be tempted to spend anything you've saved :)

I doubt it and if they've gone bust you might not HAVE to pay it at all. What is a receiver going to really do about it when all they will be interested in is making sure there's enough money left in the assets to pay themselves their extortionate fees. Vultures springs to mind :D
  • So, it's the debt probably isn't going to be transferred to Scottish power, and I'll have a separate debt for EE. I'm guessing they'll probably sell the debt to the highest bigger for quickest cash?

I'm not 100% sure what will happen to your debt but I don't believe it can be transferred to Scottish power, you don't owe Scottish power. They might well sell the debt to the highest bidder but again you don't HAVE to pay it, if it were me I would ignore all debt crawlers but NOT ignore a genuine Court claim but again I say its receivers we're talking about here, they will only pursue the soft targets and wont spend their own money issuing Court claims

Just wait it out and see what happens, certainly don't rush into paying when you may not have to, lets face it, its not your fault they went bang.

Its not surprising EE went bust. Their billing system was awful. I never had so many bills produced only to be withdrawn and replaced within another one time and time and time again.
  • We are in the opposite situation where extra energy owe us a small balance. Does anybody know what should happen to that credit?

If you were still with them when they went bust then Scottish Power will set the credit against your first bill.

If you had already moved away then SP will still be responsible for paying you the credit but it may take some time !!!
