There are loads of things to do, but without an idea your interests it's difficult to give any good suggestions really.

Obvious touristy ideas are the Roman Baths, the Royal Cresent, the Jane Austen Centre, Bath Abbey etc....

Try the free Mayor's guided walking tours (2 x daily, in front of the baths). You'll get to see lots of bits of Bath that you can then return to in your own time. Walk on the downs, along the river, visit the American museum. Using your own transport? If so, the car park by the bus station is slightly cheaper than Charlotte Street car park (which also only takes cash!).

I've heard the Royal Botanical Gardens can be lovely depending on time of year and weather, and not too far from the centre of Bath https://visitbath.co.uk/listings/single/the-botanical-gardens/

  • Thanks very much all. We are there for a few days and besides the Royal Crescent and Roman baths wasnt sure how to fill time.
Gardens/history/walks/nature etc is what we like.

We do have own transport so some nice suggestions.

By the way, are the Roman baths still in use? Do the public use them?

The American museum is good and just outside the city

If you run out of ideas in Bath there is plenty more to do in Bristol just a few miles away.

If you like walking then there is a good walking book called pub walks near Bristol and Bath.

Its possible you can download a few of the walks online but it is a good way to see Bath from the surrounding hillsides.

Prior Park Gardens is a NT property so might be worth looking into if that's your type of thing, Prior Park college is also located there which is a school so I don't know that you can look round the main house or how busy the area gets during the day,it might be a place to better visit at weekends.

If you want to go a little outside of Bath then you have Bradford on Avon a short drive away which is quite pretty.
A little further afield you have the likes of Lacock in one direction or Castle coombe in the other
Frome is another quaint place to visit

Just a few suggestions that aren't central Bath!

The Roman baths are not in use anymore but you could go to the thermae Spa

    https://www.thermaebathspa.com/

You may find you would need to book.

You've also got places like Wells,Cheddar, Glastonbury and Street within an hours drive as well as Weston-super-mare and Clevedon,if near the sea is you thing.

Head for Bristol and that opens up a whole new can of things to do...including the not so long ago opened Concorde museum at Filton.

Central Bath isn't particularly car friendly so to avoid the bus gates its probably best to use one of the park and Rides...from memory there are 3 covering the main exit points for Bath.
Parking can be expensive in the city centre car parks for a day so Park and Ride might be an easier cheaper option....although a lot will depend on where you are staying.

Most of the tourist attractions are pretty central, the Abbey, roman Baths, pump room.
Guildhall market is an interesting walk though which then sort of leads you on to pultney bridge, the weir and the parade gardens.
Rugby fans will find the Recreation Ground is also just across the river.
The Royal crescent is a little further in the other direction, but still very walkable and would also link in well with Victoria park and the botanical gardens as mentioned by another poster.

Some eclectic shops in the walcot street area and a little further on along London Road.
Milsom Street from the other direction again has some nice shops and at the top of it I believe you can cross over the road to George street and beyond where there may still be a few antique markets
Heading out of town that way and you get to the assembly rooms where the museum of costume is located and the Circus...a circular arrangement of Georgian housing!

Bath is one of my favourite places, there’s a lot to see and do. I agree with the comments about parking, we always use the Park & Ride, it’s very good.

Have a look on Trip Advisor, lots of ideas.
  • It would be a bit rude not to see the Baths, but there are lots of unusual things around at the moment too. You can try to book a tunnel tour at the Baths, or do the Abbey Tower Tour if your knees can stand the climb.

The Bath Skyline walk is stunning, and a great way to get an overview of the city. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/bath-skyline I'd recommend parking near Rainbow Woods (number 8) or North Road (number 2), rather than try to start on Bathwick Hill.

This is absolutely wonderful if you're there before early May : https://www.victoriagal.org.uk/events/sharmanka-travelling-circus

The bus tour is great fun, and there are two tours on one ticket, and the ticket lasts for 24 hours- so you can go twice if you need! https://city-sightseeing.com/en/84/bath Hop on/ off, and there are loads of sights along the way.

A fabulous walking tour begins again on the 12th April: http://showofstrength.org.uk/productions/frankenstein-in-bath I took my teenager last year and she's planning on taking her friends this year- it took about an hour and a half and was an interesting new way to see the city.

I've heard good things about Bizarre Bath comedy walk, though haven't done it yet. http://bizarrebath.co.uk

The Mayor's Guides do a good, (free) walking tour of the city every day: http://www.bathguides.org.uk/

It is a nightmare driving into town; definitely P&R. There are heaps of places to eat- check out Tripadvisor for places like Chai Walla and JC's Kitchen, as well as Menu Gordon Jones (I can dream!) and loads of pubs and restaurants.

    Enjoy- it's gorgeous.
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

I second Sally Lunn's & try a cream tea at the pump rooms where you can also try the water...

    https://visitbath.co.uk/listings/single/the-pump-room-restaurant/

You’ll also find a fountain flowing with the warm spa water that the city is founded upon, used to heat the Roman Baths and Pump Room in the winter months. You can taste the water, which contains 43 minerals – beware, though, it has quite an extraordinary taste to it! :D
