EDF comparison figures

Until yesterday, I was on EDF Online Saver Mar19v2 and switched to Easy Online Renewal Mar20v2. In my account there was a section to compare these tariffs (now disappeared as now into new tariff period but I have a printout of it).
I rang EDF as I couldn't understand the maths that indicated I would be paying pretty much the same as last year despite a 33% increase in the gas unit rate. Unsatisfactory explanation from initial woman I spoke with so I got a call back after emailing a printout of the info in my account.
2nd woman said that the cost shown for my old tariff was based on kWh usage in the year to March 2018 but projection for new tariff uses kWh used in year to 31 March 2019 which was less than the previous year. I asked her to log my question as a complaint as it was misleading to show old and new tariff figures side by side but use different kWh figures without clearly showing this too. I'm due to be called back by a manager at some point.
Thing is, when I hung up after 2nd telephone call, I got my calculator out. The cost figure for old tariff is NOT based on kWh usage in year to March 2018 or anything like it. It seems to be based on a round sum meaningless figure of 40,000 kWh. Flummoxed
Anyone else come across this?
I have now signed up to MSE's Cheap Energy Club. Not currently worth moving to Eon due to exit charges.

I don't think EDF are alone in conjuring up predicted usage. I was with SSE who cam up with some figures which bore no resemblance to my actual consumption. These were so excessive that it made their predictions of cost so high that I did my own sums - and switched away. Had they been more realistic I might have stayed.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
