O/S Daily Tuesday 2nd April 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, and those who are poorly or those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH getting ready for work as is DS1, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here.
Still quite dark here, temperature dropped although not quite a frost, rain forecast for today. Yesterday was a sunny day once the clouds had cleared and the line of washing I'd pegged out before going to work was lovely and dry.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, I used up some LO mash from the fridge so ended up with a HM fish pie and veg, lovely. Tonight will be gammon and egg with stuffed jacket potatoes.
Yesterday as expected work was manic, we had a queue and people waiting to be seen all day - today will be similar and the phones were ringing off the hooks. It's my short day today, although I'm working Saturday too.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
I had a minor miracle last night in that I only woke up twice so I feel pretty good this morning. Steve has just grumped his way off to work as it's raining and he is definitely not feeling the love for work today.
Lee and Lilly have college and Phoebe has a day off so she will be keeping me company today after a well deserved lie-in. I'm hoping my eldest daughter will pop in this morning sometime as I have a garden table here for her. It's rather in the way so it would be good to get it to it's new home.
Chicken biryani for dinner tonight and there is also left over chicken pie from yesterday so we have a choice. It is going to be quite a chickeny week on the meal plan but I don't mind as it is my favourite.
I can hear Bryan the cat leaping around upstairs so I will go and fill his Lordship's bowl before he comes down and creates.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Gers sorry to hear your DM isn't a good patient.
Thinking of Holly and Poppy.
Yesterday was sunny but there was a chill in the wind. Managed to line dry the washing which is always a bonus.
Cut the lawn and that was about it other than meals etc.
Take care allIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A rubbish night as I was clock watching all night again. Feel yuk this morning.
We had rain through the night which was a shock to the system after the long dry spell we have been having. It's dark too. The nice local wm says it is going to stop raining and we shall have a bit of sun come mid morning.
Hey DUMPLING we had a cat called Brian too! She was actually christened Topsy but my brother said she looked like the snail from Magic Roundabout so forever after she was known as Brian! Poor little cat I thought she was really pretty.
It's Tuesday so I am meeting my oldest buddy for our usual 2 coffees, followed by lunch, then a trawl round our few remaining shops. Two more are due to close soon - a bakery with small cafe and an outdoor clothing store. No doubt they will re-open as charity shops. It's sad to see really when it used to be such a busy little town centre.
I hope my lunch is better than last week's disappointment of dry chicken. Everything else we have had has been lovely so the cook must have been having an off day! So another no cooking day for me hopefully, with just something light later on.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Plus our absent friends. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Nanny please send my sun back ! we have rain here and I don't like it at all, we sat in the garden and had a drink after work last night which was lovely !! Today we have rain
Booked another part of the holiday last night going to Skiathos for two nights in a beautiful Airbnb overlooking the sea etc we went there last year and there are a few things I would like to show my sister and her partner so Im glad we are going back :j
Work today but the nice quiet Tuesday group so a nice day normally.
Pork chops for dinner tonight with some new pots and veg. I need to do a wash and put the dw on this morning.
SO thinking of you and Candy sending hugs xx
OL use an egg to bind the burgers and dust with a little flour afterwards xx
Gers Hope mum continues to get out of bed and up for a while, it will do her good getting up as much as possible.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning one and all,
A later one from me today. I've had a bit of a shocker so far.
Terrible nights sleep, so I then opted to try and get some more sleep instead of getting up at 5.30am for the gym. Then I realised I forgot to buy instant coffee when I went to the SM yesterday so I brewed a coffee in a cafetiere then went to add some cream, which entered my mug more like a block of cheese than it did runny cream. So that went down the sink. By this point I was 10 minutes behind schedule so I've been chasing my tail since.
I've perhaps double booked myself tonight too. The ex-colleague who was sacked a couple of weeks ago also plays in my football team and he mentioned to me on Wednesday that there's a local pub quiz on Tuesday he asked me along to. I said I'd be up for it and for him to send me the details. He still hasn't (it is this unreliability that he was released for!) and so I've brought my gym stuff to go after work in case.
So, I must get cracking with my day today and get things back on track!!
Also, what's this wet stuff falling from the sky?!?!?0 -
Candy, I am so sorry about Zeus, it must have been such a shock.
SO, I have no words, it must be so painful for you. My parents rarely saw my eldest brother and his family, to the extent that his wife and sons didn't come to either of their funerals. I know mum found it very hurtful and it enraged my youngest brother who visited all the time when the eldest wanted to make a speech at their funerals.
OL, sorry I missed your birthday, I hope it was a good one. Good decision on the job btw.
Speky, I saw your question about the girl you have been out with. I'd carry on seeing her as you seem to enjoy the same things, just take it slowly until you are sure of where you are going.
Anyway, we had quite a busy few days. Laura had a scare because she began to feel normal ie, not pregnant. After last time we were all worried but she had a private scan on Saturday morning and everything is fine and it's amazing to see the development in just over a week, apparently it was very active.
We went to have lunch with Chris and Crystal on Saturday and then went for a walk in that beautiful weather. Sunday was at Laura and Brian's so I was quite spoilt this weekend.
Yesterday was Steve's third chemo session which didn't last as long as the last one as they ran the drip through faster now they know he is unaffected by the drug. I nipped into the city centre fr a look round and bought a piece of Peter Rabbit fabric to make a quilt for my friend's daughter's baby.
Steve has more chemo today but just one drug and he is going by himself, I need to do some cleaning after the pas few days.0 -
Morning
Yuk rainy and cold here seems so long since it rained forgotten how miserable it makes everything
Had a very expensive day yesterday and its all the fault of cleaning which does make me consider giving it up:D i was tackling the shower in my room which has one of those rain shower tops anyway I'm cleaning it as you do and the damn thing snapped off. Of course you cant replace just the top so thats 250 for a whole new shower plus fitting  Just about the last thing I need with my funds but I cant do without a shower. My plumber is coming today to fit so need to get back from mum day quick smart.
So its mum day ...never rains but it poursand I know I will be getting itchy whilst she takes 2 hours to drink a glass of wine. Feel bad as I know she wants to be out but today I could do without it
Hope everyone has a better day than I anticipate I will0 -
Morning all! Trip down the road a ways this morning to fetch some freecycle stuff [I know I know, but I asked for a few things and they were given, don't tell the OH] and it affords me a trip to some expensive CSs, whic usually have some quality stuff. Need a couple of little plates so it's either Ikea or a CS, we'll see what the CSs have to offer first. Luckily parking is right on the street, so won't have to walk far.
It's raining here too, what a shocker after the sunny weather, glad I pressure washed the path and the door yesterday. Also did a bit of catch up sewing, three tries before I got it right, luckily it was only tacking those bits.
Lots of books out by favourite authors this month and lots of films. Luckily I have a few freebie cinema tickets left, so I'll be using those up this month.
In the seed department, only the younger seeds produced seedlings, so no chillies have sprouted. I'll sow some more just in case it was too cold in the lean to and put them somewhere warm. They'll catch up eventually.
Gers, it's difficult to give your own mother a kick up the backsde,I know, it never worked when I tried to do it, things just slide and keep sliding so hopefully the district nurse will do a sterling job of that. SO, well, it can't be something you've done because you don't see him! So bloody insensitive of him. I had to explain to the OH when he was having a rant about commerical nonsense etc, and had to point out that that would be fine to not take a card around if he actually made an effort himself to see her without her asking. It's been difficult this year and last year because of me,but that's not an excuse. Snoozer, good to hear he's not having instant reactions and Laura continues to be doing well. Oh dear Nelski, that does not sound good, you have a double whammy of tribulations...Although, you've got to think positive, i wouldn't have been able to find a plumber to come out that quickly!
Wotcha non posters, hope you're doing as well as can be expected.
Temperamental Tuesday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I know Taff I was surprised too. Its the one who did the original job too so he knew exactly which one to get.....he's hot too but I know thats not important
I'm starting to think maybe you do have that hoarding issue :rotfl: I always think of you when these up cycling programmes are on and yes they all tend to have full houses tooI need to get my chillies going too but I will be cheating and buying some pre sprouted from the garden centre

Morning everyone.
Bright sunshine here with damp pavements.
DM now complaining of sore heels - well... enough said! The nursing team brought a blow up mattress yesterday, looks like a lilo though looking online it costs £144 plus VAT. I'm hoping that the sore heels are a good motivator for her to get up. My next call will be to the Red Cross to see if I can borrow a wheelchair - DM's flat is very long so I can't see her being able to make it to the living room easily just yet.
Warning - mini pointless rant coming. Click and drag to see text. Fresh flowers. Well meaning friends and family send huge bouquets of beautiful flowers which then need an awful lot of looking after. Fresh water, deadheading, picking off leaves for weeks and ending up with pathetic pieces of twigs. Flowers which don't need such care are brilliant - daffodils for instance.
Apart from that I've done my monthly online banking already, swept out the miserly interest into a spending account.
Virtual hugs to all in pain or struggling. Happy Tuesday to everyone.0
