Chitting potatoes

I put some potatoes out to chit a couple of weeks ago in a sunny cool spot - the sprouts are now only about 5mm long - should I wait till they grow longer or just plant them now?

    Don't know where you are in the country which will influence the answer, Cornwall yes start getting them in, Scotland, hang on a while...however, if frost is forecast..get them indoors..now!

    I've got the casablanca(1st earlies ) in bags that got lifted into the garage last night. Hopefully start the rest next week. We're in Wiltshire so not too cold now

    You are looking for slow strong growth, by a window in a frost free garage is fine, and your outside cool shady location is OK, as long as you protect from frost. If the frosts get the shoots then they are useless. I would rather have them in the ground soon than risk exposure to jack frost
