Did my conveyancer break confidentiality?

Hi,


I was using a firm for conveyancing that were truly awful in many respects and the purchase of the flat I was buying didn't happen, not thought any fault of theirs.



I asked them to put the conveyancing on hold at a certain point and if the sellers conveyancers contacted them, to liaise with me before answering them.


They ignored this request and told the seller's conveyancers that the conveyancing had been put on hold by myself and gave them the date as well, is this a breach of client confidentiality?



I presume they will send me a bill and if so would I have any comeback on this point?

    My guess is that they have duty to inform the other party's conveyancers that the purchase is on hold.

    Only to the extent that there might be a subtle difference between "we've been told not to do anything for the meantime" and "we haven't been told to progress the transaction". Solicitors have a professional duty not to knowingly mislead other parties.


    If the transaction fell through for an unrelated reason then I don't see how this would relate to their fees anyway.
