Claiming PPI in maiden name

Options
Hi all, I am going to see if I am owed any PPI, Ive sent off for one via the Which website but there isn't anywhere that actually asks for your name at the time or address. Is this normal when first looking to claim? How do they know by looking at your address now and married name?

thanks

You've sent off for what from the which web site?

You know you should complain directly to the companies you had PPI with given big all the details they'll need.

It was this, and it does get sent straight to the company from what I can gather.

As above - just go direct.

That way you can provide the information you need and you reduce the chances of a third party losing your data or failing to pass it on.

If you'd have read the whole which article it warns about fees payable for using such a company. They also tell you step by step how to do it yourself!

The answer is that they won't know (unless you tell them).

What is the point of sending the Bank a template which is clearly not appropriate to your needs?

What you need to do is write a simple letter explaining that you want to know if you had PPI under your old name and previous address. You then send the letter(s) to the Bank(s) of your choice with suitable proof that you are who you say you are (and were). If the Bank(s) have kept records of your old finance they may be able to confirm (or deny) that you had PPI policies, but if they have no records then any complaint ends there.
If PPI is confirmed, you then need to write an additional letter detailing your valid complaint reasons and why you believe you should be refunded.

The Which site gives good advice about all this, but template letters are generally only of use if they can be customised to the individual...
