car insurance for non UK resident

Hi
Grateful for any advice/recommendations. My niece has lived outside UK for past 15 years, usually hiring a car when she returns to visit family. She is about to take a six months career break and return to UK for that time.
My insurer won't cover non Uk resident. Are there companies that do?

This has been asked numerous times and there is very little choice.

Suggest contacting large Insurance brokers such as Towergate and Adrian Flux.

From what I remember, the premiums charged to cover a non UK resident as an additional named driver, put people off. And if they had an accident, then it would be the policyholder having to pay the excess, higher premiums etc. People therefore looked at options of hiring cars for short periods and using public transport. Or buying a cheap car and Insuring it in their own name under a backpackers type policy. I think Adrian Flux own a specialist Brokers that offers policies to non residents and I think the policy was called walkabout aimed at Australian visitors who would visit the UK/Europe for a few months.

We had no problem adding an non resident EU licence holder to our policy.
