Hi. I'm not sure if I've put this on the right board but I couldn't find one that was open all ready. My son recently returned from Camp America and was ringing his American girlfriend daily for a long time so after getting a very expensive phone bill from BT (which was to be expected really) I rang and discussed ways of reducing it and they told me about International freedom, it costs an extra £5 per month but it means we can phone abroad both landlines and cell phones free of charge any time of the day or night both weekdays and weekends. I got these two things off the website
BT International Freedom is available only to residential customers with one of the following BT Together options:
BT Together Option 1
BT Together Option 2
BT Together Option 3
BT Together Local calls option*
BT Working Together*
BT Working Together – Talk*
These are the countries you can ring
Australia, Austria, Azores, Bahamas, Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus (not including Northern Cyprus), Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Madeira, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain (except the Canary Islands), Sweden, Switzerland and USA
Hope its of some use, it's certainly saved me lots of money oh and yes I know he should pay it himself and when he gets a job outside of uni hours he will be doing, but I think it interferes with his social life haha

You dont phone Free of Charge because you pay £5 a month for the service.
Also they operate a fair use policy of 600 minutes per month.
Their are cheaper less restrictive packages available here, have a read of Heinz post here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=5875127&postcount=170 -
Thank you Ypaymore I appreciate that its not really free of charge because of the £5 per month extra but its worked out a lot cheaper for us, and I will call BT about the fair use policy of 600 minutes a month because they didn't tell me about that!0
