Garden tools rusted.
Options
Sorry if this is the wrong section.
All my garden tools e.g. hedge sheers, tree loppers saws etc have gone rusty. .They were placed loosely in big plastic box with no lid
Previously they were kept in a shed for years with no signs of rust but now they are in a concrete garage with concrete base.
How can i prevent other stuff from rusting?
There is no water ingress inside the garage but all spades, forks etc have not been affected ( maybe because they were just stood up and not in a box with other stuff)
How do other people stop things going rusty over winter?

Clean them with a wire brush and some oil like 3-1 and then use a old oily rag each time you use them. I always coat mine end of season for keeping them going over winter0

The old bucket of sand mixed with vegetable oil is a good tip (I learnt that here, so thanks to whomever)
You might have a moisture problem in the garage. If there's no airflow then any moisture in the air trapped in pockets (like the box, because cold air sinks) is going to condense on that cold hard steel. It's not going to be full on rust, just natural surface oxidation which is possibily remedied by a little WD40 and an old tea towel (WD40 isn't food safe as far as I know)
To stop it happening again, maybe a lid won't work as it'll still trap air but I'd certainly get the box off the floor, or consider hanging the tools from hooks - the likes of Screwfix & Toolstation have very reasonable clips & brackets (or even wooden coat hooks from Ikea)
If you're interested in the hanging route, post back & I can rustle up some Screwfix links for the stuff I used
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
Spray of WD40 or a look alikeEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0
