Help needed with Firewire

I recently purchased a Sony handycam mini DV recorder, in the hope of saving film of my baby son to my PC and, to email to friends and family. Supplied USB cable does not transmit footage from tape to PC, so have purchased a firewire cable, which connects to the dock that the camcorder connects to. Problem is I have nowhere on my PC (Dell 8400) to connect the firewire cable, plenty of USB ports not much use.
Please help as now in despair!

Sounds like you'll need to buy a PCI firewire card, do you know if you've got room for an extra PCI card?
