There are, of course, alternative credit cards available depending on your exact requirements. For instance, if you want a card to use for everyday use, which also allows fee free foreign currency purchases - Halifax provide an alternative option.

In the past I got accepted for a Halifax CC after Amazon (MBNA) rejected me for no obvious reason.

Similar thing happened to me, more baffled rather than annoyed I contacted them and asked why. The response was that I didn't meet their criteria,I asked which bit of criteria I didn't meet and the answer was my annual income. Still confused I asked what the minimum annual income would be to meet their criteria and they said £13000. So I earn significantly more than that so argued that it didn't make any sense. Conversation continues, I ask twice to speak to a supervisor, both requests were ignored and then I was told that I was too high risk for the level of lending, again asking for more information on how this was the case the call handler basically couldn't answer me. It felt very much like they were just trying to fob me off with any excuse and wouldn't admit that they couldn't help me. So not only annoyed about not being given a real reason but also poor customer service which has resulted in a complaint.
Sounds like my experience. Get the search removed from your credit history. They removed mine after I pushed them as to why I was rejected and they couldn't give me an answer. (in comes Gary Dexter who will say "they don't have to"). I don't care, I asked them why and they became flustered and couldn't say. I suspect they have a huge IT mess that is falsely rejecting customers and to cover themselves from further prying (perhaps unearthing something much more concerning) they agreed to remove the search. To be honest I wouldn't trust them with my data and financial details at this point.

There must be a reason that the other Tandem credit card woes post is now 8 pages deep and is consistently on the first page of this forum. That just doesn't happen with other companies/cards. No smoke without fire!
