Payment declined/failed but funds taken as a transaction

Hi
I tried to make a payment (£3000) by debit card and got a message saying it had failed and to contact the company I was paying before attempting to pay again.
I called them. The said it had failed and not to worry the funds would fall out of my pending transactions and all be ok.
I called my bank who said it had an authorisation code and if the other party claimed the funds it would go through otherwise it would be part of my available balance within a few days.
I called the company back and they said it had failed they wouldn’t take the money, and agreed I would pay later (in a few months, no necessity to pay now)
Log in to my internet bank and the pending transaction is now a line in my statement. So the money has gone, but log into the first company and it hasn’t come off my balance.
Where has my money gone, will I get it back?
Please help! It would happen over a weekend. I’m very panicked right now.

If the transaction had failed it would not have been shown as a pending transaction.
The message that you claim to have got makes no sense.
Debit card transactions are not normally debited to bank accounts on Saturdays either.0 -
I made the payment yesterday and it went from my balance into pending (which I understand] but today it’s gone from my account as a statemented line.
So it seems as if the 2nd company have called for the transaction even though they assured me it wouldn’t be taken as it had failed.
I took a screenshot of the transaction failed screen, so I was under the impression the money wouldn’t go from my account and I could go and make the transaction in personMortgages Oct 2020: £308,283 Jul 2021 £286,600 October 2022 £253,456 MFW-22 #9 MFIT-T6 #350 -
Not entirely sure what you mean by the first/second company. Were you trying to pay a debt of some sort because that's the only thing that fits in with how you describe money going from your bank account but your balance with the 'first company' not reducing?
Or, were you buying something?
Clear up the confusion and we might be able to reassure you as to your rights/options.0 -

Yes paying off part of a loan. From nationwide to barclays.
An overpayment rather than monthly payment.
Would it be different if I was paying off some of my holiday balance with Tui?Mortgages Oct 2020: £308,283 Jul 2021 £286,600 October 2022 £253,456 MFW-22 #9 MFIT-T6 #350 -

Yes it could be different if paying a retailer for goods or services rather than making a 'cash' payment to a bank. The main point is it is easier to analyse a situation when you have the full picture.
The weekend intervention is probably the issue here (rather than the apparent declined authorisation) and the reduction in loan balance will probably show on Monday. What do the T&Cs of the loan say about overpayments and how long it takes for them to be reflected in the balance owing?
I've never made an overpayment in this way before; do you have to enter the loan account number as part of the process (or is that automatically done for you)? Could you have entered the wrong loan account number?
If the balance doesn't reduce then you will need to talk to Barclays but it doesn't sound like you need to worry just yet; you have evidence of transaction failure and you have evidence that it was still paid - I don't see how Barclays could dispute that (unless there was a data entry error).0 -
I just logged on to my online banking. Opened the account and selected make a debit card payment and entered my card details.
I will see what happens tomorrow and I can call both barclays and nationwide if it is still missing.
At this stage I don’t care which bank has the money as long as it isn’t lost :-(Mortgages Oct 2020: £308,283 Jul 2021 £286,600 October 2022 £253,456 MFW-22 #9 MFIT-T6 #350
