lloyds unpaid cheque?

I deposited a cheque into my account yesterday via the app on my phone, it went though ok and showed in my account but was not cleared, today its come up as "unpaid cheque" Does this mean there was no money in the other persons account or is this an error with scanning the cheque? also this may be a silly question butwill i be charged for this? If not i will try and rescan the cheque.

It usually means that there was no money in the other persons account - but it could also mean that there was a problem with the cheque itself - ie, not signed, dated more than X months ago, amounts don't tally, etc.

As it sounds like you still have the original cheque (sorry, I don't really know how this scanning process works!) then you 'll be able to see if there are any obvious errors.

Otherwise, could you speak to the person who gave you the cheque to ask if there may be - um - a problem from their end?

Unpaid means the cheque bounced. https://www.lloydsbank.com/legal/current-accounts/cheque-clearing.asp Does it not give a reason if you click on the entry, Halifax do so I would assume LLoyds will be the same.

On the app yes - normal clearing cycle rules do not apply here.
  • I've had a cheque problem too that i'll report on.

Lloyds seem to have some kind of glitch in their system regarding cheques bouncing because I experienced problems too.

3 months ago I paid in a cheque, for under £25, it was represented twice and then returned back to me ("unpaid cheque") , with a covering letter from the bank to say that it was now my responsibility to take it up with the person that gave it to me.

    I did just that.

That person had no issues with lack of funds, they went to their bank (a Lloyds aswell) and was told by the staff there was no reason why it should have had any issue at all - they suggested contacting the online team for further help.

The person did that - same reply, no reason at all that it should have bounced twice.

There was no problem with any of the written information on the cheque nor with the manner in which I had paid it in.
I paid in a replacement cheque, from the same account, all written info on it was identical to the first ….. this time it went through effortlessly.

This very, identical in all ways, thing happened again 3 weeks ago, different person, different sum......
    Not good.

One thing that may have happened is - cheque made out to say Tony when your actual name is Anthony etc etc
