Just wondered if anyone knows how to change your password on the Government Gateway site? I can't work out how you do it.

I asked them the exact5 same question on their chat facility which comes up when logged in.
After me telling the agent the problem - cannot change password - and the agent "helpfully" t5alking me through all available options, which I had already tried, he agreed with me that their was no facility for the user to change password once logged in and that this would be flagged up for attention with the powers that be.
Did not say when change password option would be available, though.0 -
Thank you for checking it out with adviser. I wanted to do the same thing. If they had thought about providing the option you would expect there to be an explanation as to why they had decided not to have it.0

Tboo's suggestion worked for me.
Given how over-zealous HMRC are about security (e.g. insisting on you entering an access code which they text you EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU LOG ON), it's amazing how weak the password requirements are - max 12 letters and no special characters. Anything under 16 characters is regarded as weak.0 -

But if you have to put the code in as well, it's not really that weak is it.
What are the chances of somone guessing your password and guessing the access code and getting into your account.0 -
I found this thread while searching for the answer to this question. I eventually worked it out. The key being to know where to start from on the gov website. I was looking in Self Assessment as that what's I mainly use. It's actually on the personal tax account "Account home" page. Hopefully this benefits others.
- Search for "hmrc personal tax account" (I can't post the link, but it will on the gov_dot_uk site)
- Click Start Now, and sign-in with your Government Gateway ID
- Once logged in, click "Your account"
Then from the menu that drops down - Click "Manage your Government Gateway details" (under "Sign-in details")
- Next to Password, click change.
It should be clear from there.
