So i am looking to apply for a mortgage this year but i have a default from 2 years ago. I was on maternity leave at the time so my income was reduced by 75%. I ended up £340 into an overdraft ehich subsequently defaulted as i couldnt afford to pay it at the time. Would it be worth putting a notice of correction to explain this. I just do want it to look like i am making excuses? The default has since been paid
Thank you xx

No.
Just go to a broker who specialises I’m adverse credit histories.
You could try a high street lender - it’s likely that “the computer says no” but you can then ask for a manual review0 -
Even if your income was reduced by 75% you still had the other 25% to pay into your bank account. £340 is not a large overdraft. The bank would not normally have defaulted a current account which had funds being paid into it.
There is nothing to correct. You obviously abandoned the bank account, failed to pay in any funds and ignored correspondence from the bank on this subject in order for them to have defaulted the account.
The default is factually correct.0 -
Thanks ben8282. I totally agree it was my fault. I found myself in financial difficulty..i stopped using the account and burried my head. Not proud but it was a one off. Living on statutory maternity pay was extremley challenging so at the time £340 was a lot of money. It wasnt that i was trying to say its not correct. Just explain why and that its out of character0

Never put a notice of correction unless the debt was caused by you being kidnapped and held in an underground lair by an egomaniac supervillain for a minimum of 6 weeks.
Any other reason just makes things worse.0 -
Thank you i did suspect that was the case.0

I've read some howlers in my time, people rambling on about cakes and umbrellas, bonkers stuff. Don't know any colleague who has ever taken any notice of a NOC and I don't even read them now, just go on the payment history, affordability and quality/honesty of the application.0
