NewBie question: How to improve the rating

Hello,
I plan to start a small shop on ebay. However I have never sold anything on ebay before (I bought something once).
In this forum, I read lots of posts saying that never buy things from low rating ebayer or new names.
My question is: how to improve my rating quickly?
One idea is that I create two accounts and just let them buy things from each other and give positive feedbacks. Is this workable?
Thanks

No, don't do that. It's called shill bidding and is completly againsty ebay policy. You (not just your accounts) will get suspended from ebay for doing it.
The only way to legitimately build a decent track record of trading on ebay is to do just that. If necessary, start off by buying cheap things that you might buy elsewhere anyway, pay for them promptly and hope that most of the sellers leave you good feedback.0 -
that is one way but as soon as someone looks at your feedback and sees the same person has given you say 30 postive feedbacks. this would look more dodgy than not having any feedback.
if your prices are good and you respond to questions and what you are selling is useful you will soon get ya score up0 -
i don't think it would be.
you'd be creatinbg false feedback as it were cos of course you'd give yourself pos FB - who wouldn't! ten points for the idea though!
I think it's better to get the genuine stuff.
what you could do if you're willing to spend a couple if quid is buy a few e.books of recipes and so on, they're usually dirt cheap, under a pound, you'll get instant delivery normally and hopefully super quick feedback. Get ten of them from reputable sellers (to make sure you actually have a sensible transaction) and that could help biuld you up a bit. If you don't mind waiting, find the cheapest physical item you can and do it that way.
I feel nervous about buying from sellers with less than 10 feedback.
Good Luck!0 -
Even if you did shill bid against yourself (which would be daft) your rating would only ever stay at 1 even if you did 30 transactions. You only get 1 rating per seller not transaction."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0

Best way to bump up your score is buy loads of cheap stuff off there (99p or under) Also create a ME page telling your potential buyers a bit about yourself. Might boost the buyer's confidence and get them to take a chance on you.
I have bought from many newbie sellers but I always proceed with caution."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
I rarely buy from a new seller and would never buy at all unless I can use paypal.
As others have suggested spend a week or so buying a few odds and ends, there is a website mentioned on here somewhere that shows all items finishing in the next hour at less than £1, just watch the post and packing.
Once you have about 8-10 feedback you should be fine.

Thanks very much!!
I know what I should do now. :T0 -
I guess it depends, to be honest never bothers me that much if a seller is new or not, mind you I tend to buy cheap items (like CDs, DVDs).
maybe i'd be more cautious if I was spending more than a few quid... but I'd take the other member's advice, buy a few cheap things (maybe things you can resell in your shop?)0 -
Hi daxu.
Just a word of caution if you are thinking of buying things to build up your feedback then re-sell in your shop.Note that if buyers look at your feedback they can see everything you have bought or sold in the last 90 days assuming you were left feedback for it.
....so say you bought a book for 50p one week then tried to re-sell it 2 weeks later buyers could see that you bought it not so long ago and how much you paid for it so they might not want to pay much more than you did. Also they will see what p+p you paid for it so don't charge too much more than you paid.
I have to say that I have done this in the past (looked at sellers items) to see if they bought the item recently but I know some people are like me and want to buy something cheap then re-sell for a profit,I don't have a problem with it....its just business....lol...
Just thought I'd warn you of what could happen.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
