Pet insurance cancellation advice

Hi, I recently cancelled my NFU pet insurance - I contacted them by phone on the 22nd March to cancel and i also cancelled the direct debit.
I then received a letter stating the policy was cancelled from the 22nd and that payments stopped automatically.
I then received a letter saying I was due a refund and this money was transferred into my bank.
Today I have received a letter saying the refund was a mistake, and the refund was given on the 25th on their belief that the next direct debit payment, due to be paid on the 25th, had been met.
The letter states I now have 15 days to make the payment.
This all seems a bit messy. I'm assuming I have to make the payment?
I still have an ongoing claim with them which they have not paid yet and this is 6 weeks after submitting the claim, which is typical of how they have been operating and one of the main reasons I cancelled my policy.
Any thoughts/advice appreciated.

Yes, you will have to repay them the overpayment.
When was your policy renewal date?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Thank you, I suspected I would have to pay.
The renewal was on the 25th Feb, so I was just into a month of the policy when I cancelled.0 -
Ok, so the claim was on last years policy?
That makes senseChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Yes that's right, the claim was on last years policy.0
