Solar PV and FIT payments
Options
Hi,
I have had my 2Kw solar PV system for 6 years and its been one of the best investments I've made. It paid for itself in 4 years. I now enjoy the income from it.
I have just bought an electric car and thinking is there a way I can increase the size of the system. Has anyone added panels or even a wind turbine at a later date? How does this affect my contract as I would then be generating more than before.
Thanks in advance

Not sure how it paid for itself in 6 years. You should have been put on the 17.4p/kWh rate and that would mean even with inflation you should have received only about £2,300 in FIT+Export, install cost for you should have been £4k-£5k I think. Even if you used 100% of what you generated, your total would only be around £3,800 earned.
Anyhow, to be more specific in answering your question.
You can't add anything to the existing FIT. New panels or adding a Wind Turbine would count as a separate install. They would need to be connected to a different inverter and also not pass through the Export meter you have. On top of that, the total you can generate without DNO approval is 3.68kW. Adding a battery system and keeping anything new from feeding into the grid would bypass that requirement.0 -
Adding a battery system also requires dno approval.0

You will also forgo any FIT payments because it will be a new install and they stop wef from 1st AprilNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
