Hi all
I have been fined by the court £550 to be exact. I'm newly self employed, so some months I've made nothing and had to live of working tax. Anyway I phoned them em up to arrange a payment plan, they did some calculations and worked out £100 a month. I have to make my 1st payment in 2 weeks, but I'm starting to think I don't kn ow if I can guarantee £100 everything. Can I change the payment plan? Do they even have to set up a payment plan with me?

Hi,
You must ask the court for more time to pay.
Usually they allow you to repay over a maximum of 12 months, so in theory you should be able to get the repayment halved.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Give them any new information on your finances and ask them to recalculate. They will base the payment on your ability to pay.
Did you have a means hearing with a judge or was this with a court officer?Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.

Thanks for the replies, I didnt have a hearing with the judge. The sent the papers to my parents house, I have been staying there on and off to help with my father who has dementia, he opened the letter, so I didnt get it in time. I had to phone the court and let them know, they said to write a letter explaining and I put down my financial situation in the letter.0

Do that again and explain any difficulties you might have in meeting the payments. They may make adjustments or they may not. But best to ask if only to make them aware should it not go to plan for you.Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.
