although many Spanish banks now charge a fee for withdrawal on a foreign card.
Yeah thats a bit of a concern. Any idea how much for say 220Euro? Less than 2.5%?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I think it varies 2-5€ per withdrawal. But some banks still don't charge, Caixa and another one or two, I forget which. They announce the charge before proceeding. Decline their own 'Conversion'.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

About the only cash I would have used on my last 10 or so trips abroad is a couple of 50 cent coins for motorway toilets with turnstiles where the contactless doesn't work, but this can usually be worked around by asking at the till.
You don't get coins from an ATM anyway.
Just had to come back to this.
Day 3 of holiday and so far I've had to use cash for..- Tipping hotel staff
- Buying towels from beach vendors
- Buying drinks on the beach
- Renting sunbeds on the beach
- Paying for parking
- Buying goods from local market
- Paying for public toilet
So I would say the fact you have only used cash for a toilet in the last 10 years abroad is quite remarkable. I'm only day 3 and have another 10 to go.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I would say this is true. OP, why not ask Monzo via the app, they are usually very responsive0 -

I think it depends on what kind of holidays you go on. Personally I never feel the need to tip hotel staff and never have (I don't really go places that expect it).
I do go to the beach but we would get bored just sitting on a sun lounger so never have and havn't had any of the costs of that.
I find most paid parking abroad either accept card if it a barrier parking place or you can pay by phone or an app just like in this country.
I've never paid for a toilet abroad, I have been places you have to buy something to get access to the toilet but I was already using their services and paid by card.
I have used cash to pay for things at a market but I can see why people wouldn't because if your flying you can only bring back certain amounts of things.0
