Free plumbing advice working ????

Has anyone received any advice from this thread yet ??
and where have all these questions come from we don't normally have 140 posters all at once ?? most seem to be from new posters
I don't see the point in this thread at all, especially if it carrys on like this
All of these questions would have been answered by the plumbers who frequent the group (myself included), and the answers posted up for everyone to see and benefit from.
Sending private messages helps the individual rather than the group as a whole.
And while we are at it  Martin
" Plumbers make a fortune, primarily because they charge one."
Would be grateful if you wouldn't tar every plumber with the same brush.
I make an honest and very modest living charging £15-£20p/h mostly.
Don't think this even competes with a journalists salary....do you ??

p.s Tell Ian his website is still out of date from christmas.

I do apologise, I know there are some really great plumbers out there - its probably my london bias (where they do charge a fortune).
As for answering the questions, as I noted originally we are goint to let them build up and then answer them. Im well aware there are many regular plumbers on here who do a huge amount of good. However this is more a 'tip' thing than a 'chat' thing as it went to the whole moneysaving community, and as such i felt i wanted to try something a little more formal.
Truth is the number of questions have been far higher than I'd ever have expected. So what we're going to do is work them into 20 specific questions that amalgamate all the above and ask Ian to answer those

No problem Martin, I should have known you were influenced by london rates.
I'm not surprised folks are upset at the costs of plumbers down there.
A lot of the bad publicity really annoys me. It paints this rosy picture of 'us millionaires' raking it in, and ripping the arms and legs off anyone brave enough to ask for new tap washers. This is not the case at all.
I have to be honest, I can own up to not reading your advetisement for the new service properly.....sorry !I didn't realise questions were being answered later.
I was more concerned with the group not seeing any advice given.
Can't believe how many questions have been asked so far. There seems to be a lot of new posters as well.
If plumbing questions are going to increase sufficiently, it might be an idea to have a sub-board especially for this subject.
Great site Martin, Keep up the good work :T

It does show you the power of the email tips when you see a thread like this bring in loads of new users and 15,000 views of the thread.
I do hope at least a percentage of those who have posted a question come back and gain from the great information that is posted on this board by the "resident" experts such as Rob.
And of course have a look at the rest of the forums for further advice
edited as I didn't realise this thread was in the Vent Board. Of course I hope that all the new users will be viewing the DIY board0 -

I know a very good plumber who is also corgi and acop registered who charges about the same as you do, I always phone him first as i know he will do a good job at a good price. I also know of 2 others who charge a call out fee of about £60 an hour  what they charge doesn't mean they are any better at their job, in fact the guy that charges the least is always the busiest :T0 -

I wish you lived near me! (instead of the plumbers here who are raking it in and ripping the arms and legs off anyone brave enough to ask for new tap washers)

Oh how I wish we had plumbers like you down here in the south-east, Rob. All our local plumbers live in huge mansions and go on holiday more times a year than I have hot dinners. s'true.
