wrong gender and prefix on flight booking

Hi
we have booked a family holiday through an online travel agency. They originally put us on an indirect flight- all was well. They subsequently offered us a direct flight for a small fee which we chose to accept. On the day it was booked i noticed one of my sons had been changed to a miss and listed as a female passenger on the new booking. I contacted the airline straight away but as it had been booked by a third party they said i couldn't change it, it had to be done via the booking agent. I contacted them and they said not to worry it would be ok. I have tried several times to get it changed - the mistake is not ours, every time they seem non plussed and say it won't matter. The booking agent said i would have to cancel the booking and rebook at an additional cost of £300 each way if i was still worried!!!
My question is will it matter if the prefix AND gender are incorrect on new booking IF the API is correct?
and do i have any comeback on the booking agent if there are problems??
Sorry its so long.

Given it's the agent's mistake I would say that you can hold them liable if he's unable to fly and needs to purchase a new ticket.

Who is the agent and where are they based? Who is the airline?

He should be OK if the names match, I'd expect them to fix it at check-in without cost.

It is down to your agent to change and gender can only be changed over the phone and it can take ages to get through to them

Do you have the airline locator if so go on the TC airlines website and change it yourself. It doesn't actually say on your passport Miss, Mr, Mrs, Dr etc so it shouldn't actually matter, but your agent can change it free of charge they're just being pedantic.

For peace of mind, why not call the airlines desk at the airport you'll be flying from? Or ask the agent for confirmation in writing (email will do) that it won't have an impact?

I can't see it being an issue. Those types of title (Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms etc) are social only and don't form part of your name. They are used as a courtesy only and you can choose to use whichever you wish. As long as the name matches, thats the only ticketing requirement.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
