Gym not honouring personal training sessions

Hi
A local and well know gym where i am a member of is no longer willing to honour personal training sessions which i have paid for in advanced
I paid for 20 sessions upfront in august 2018
I only used 4
However after my health deterioated i was no longer able to use the gym frequently.
My personal trainer knew of this.
Now at the time of taking my money or before/after it was not made aware tl me that the sessions are only valid for 3 months. There is no terms and conditions anywhere, i was not given a form, just a receipt of payment.
When i wnet back to the gym, the trainer said the sessions have expired and i would need to pay for them again!?
Is this right? I spoke to citizens advice (not helpful at all) they said i am bound to the conditions, but NOTHING IS WRITTEN ANYWHERE, and apparently its my duty to ask for it??
With this, i can set up a bogus company, hide some conditions somwhwere and effectively steal peoples money without providing the service???

What was agreed when you booked the sessions?
How many sessions a week?
What was said when you advised the PT you could not do them anymore?0 -
It's not your duty to ask for it, you made a contract fo X amount of sessions for X amount of money. Unless you were made aware that they would expire then you have the right to assume expired when used.
If your positive there are no terms on this then an LBA for the amount of unused sessions might get their attention.
You may have to follow through on the threat though.0 -
It was agreed with the PT that 20 sessions were paid for, there was absolute no mention of expiry or an agreement of regularity.
Unfortunately there was no contract, nothing written. Payment was made to the gym and not directly to the PT0 -
What is an LBA?0

In the first instance, make a formal complaint to the gym and proceed from there. Are you certain these terms are not contained in your gym membership T&Cs?It was agreed with the PT that 20 sessions were paid for, there was absolute no mention of expiry or an agreement of regularity.

100% no email was given to me when i registered. They present you with a 20page document when registering, but i never got a copy of it0

Letter Before (court) Action. What is an LBA?
You'll need to be very sure that the terms you say you did not receive are not contained in the general membership T&Cs
Why not? I'm guessing the gym will say they sent you a copy in the post. They present you with a 20page document when registering, but i never got a copy of it
Check the T&Cs first. Then complain formally. Then LBA (as a final resort and only if there is no mention of these terms)0 -
No one's "stolen" your money, you handed it over willingly and were happy to do so without any contract or paperwork. You could have asked at the time before you handed your money over. And yes, it's your "duty" to understand what you're signing up to.Hi

What is it with people willingly throwing money at gyms without wanting any form of agreement or paperwork? There have been a spate of these recently, probably after lots of people joined gyms in the new year.
I hope you get it sorted and that you're better now.0 -
With those 4x sessions you initially attended, what time scale did you attend them on?
One session per week?
Two sessions per week?
Three sessions per week? (and then 1x the next week)
All four sessions per week?0 -
It was random, i think it was over a period of 6 weeks0
