New car issue
Hi to all, I just wanted a few thoughts on this.
I bought a new pre-reg Mitsubishi outlander about a month ago from a dealer, I noticed a few faults including climate control issues and rad fans kicking in when they shouldn't.. As the dealers the other side of the county I got my local guy who owes me a favour just to plug the diagnostic and read any faults, when it come up with about 20 which couldn't be reset I decided it would have to go in on warranty..... Rung up dealer no slots for a month (I hate main dealers) So I phoned Mitsubishi assist who said they could come and collect the car and said they could send out a courtesy car from enterprise.. Great.
After a few days at the dealers its already been in a week The workshop manager said they had sussed the problem.. Car has had the wrong ECU put in it!!!!..
Now here's the real issue service manager has told me ECU is back order part 27th April is expected:eek:, On the 12th April we should of been driving to the alps, enterprise can extend hire on the continent but only at my expense and basically ball ache also a 1.3 Vauxhall Grand land with a family of 4 skis and kit is hardly the 12 hr drive of dreams into the alps...
It has to be said workshop manager has been helpful and courteous but I do think its pretty bad of Mitsubishi not being able to put an ECU in a jiffy bag and have it here sometime in the next week on a car that has 400 miles on it.
I'm tempted to take my old 120k 12 year old legacy, but the way lucks running that will be tempting fate.... I just want the new car I bought (cash) not that should matter to work.

Clearly their fault, so a bit of pressure for a suitable replacement car to be made available for use where needed, at their expense.0

My thoughts as well perhaps a bit further up the food chain than the dealers? cant beave it takes what would be 5 weeks to get an ECU.0

Unfortunately with just in time manufacturing there aren't parts waiting to be picked off a shelf and sent to you.
Last year it took 8 weeks to get a turbo for our car.
Take the Subaru. At 120,000 its not even run in. You should have bought another rather than the Mitsubishi!0 -

Had 3 Subaru's but all the ones for sensible money pre-reg were the horrible diesel boxer, last one hasn't been as good as the older ones, clutch release bearing spat its biscuits 100 miles away at 60k and I drove it home on 2 gears, auto levelling headlight sensors are mounted in a stupid position so they've failed every few years and ballast boxes (thankfully so common there now only £30 as opposed to the £500 they were) go every couple of years.... there not the bomb proof cars they were when I ran the WRX wagons.
But on parts I understand just in time, but I also run plant and dealers will commonly rob parts off new machines, or send out equivalent loan machines…. if someone said 6 weeks on a new front line machine then Id hope they would be behind protective glass!0 -

Apart from the availability of a brand new, blank, unregistered ECU (which needs security precautions to be taken over it) from Japan, it will need to be programmed to the exact spec of the vehicle in the main dealer's workshop. And you say their workshop was booked for the next month...? Well, there's your time constraint, right there.
And that's always assuming the diagnosis is correct, and the ECU (which must have passed factory QC and the dealer PDI) hasn't been corrupted by some other fault.0 -
ECUs are not just an off-the-shelf, plug-and-play thing.

ECU isn't corrupted its for the hi-bred model not the diesel this is a !!!! up not a fault, Dealers fitting time is 4 hrs workshop manager has already told me that, when it lands it has to be on otherwise there penalised.
I'm from an engineering background and have had close links with CNH over the years so have a fair idea of what's involved, and what can be done...… and its not 4 weeks of work!...…
If I was a betting man id almost certainly say this isn't a factory mistake but as this was a pre-reg unsold car that's been knocking around on a forecourt for 6 months, the dealer had "borrowed" it and then ordered the wrong part up..... again I'm close enough to that background to have seen such things happen.0 -
Well I stated my opinions on what could or should be done didn't get shouty, which were all dismissed..... But this morning phone call car is done, ECU availability suddenly went from the 27th of April to ermm the 28th of March... Would almost guarantee that some ware on a dealers forecourt there's a pre-reg with a missing ECU....;)
Result and worth the whinge.0
