Direct Line 18% increase

Hi all
Over the past two years Direct Line has reduced my premium, so that last year it was just £206.08. This year they want £243.04. Okay, it's still not a huge sum, but it is a large percentage increase. I called DL and was told that I was at "base level" so nothing could be done. I asked for reasons for the increase, as I am still using the same vehicle, still do 3000 - 3500 miles each year, lock the car in a garage at night, have had no claims for ten years (and that was protected). There was no real reason. I have tried the whole recommended MSE comparison process, but the only smaller quotes were with larger excesses and no windscreen cover, not so good customer service reports etc. It looks like I will have to stay with DL - as I say, it still is not a large premium, but it really annoys me that they have decided on such a big increase.
Any thoughts? I'm 61, drive a Fiesta ST from 2006, had it since 2007, don't use it for work, just SDP.
Thanks

If you believe what you read then apparently insurance costs are rising across the board and the fact you are srruggling to beat the quote seems to confirm this.
My renewal with DL is in a couple of months....will be interesting0 -

Loyalty no longer pays, comparison websites etc and take your money elsewhere"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

OP has already tried comparison sites and it seems the only ones who are beating DL quote are the budget cheap and not so cheerful.0
